You know you can't re-sell a boat nearly as easy as a kayak, right?

Budget is the most important consideration here my brother, you have to make sure that you're expectations align with your wallet. As an added bonus, covid/supply chain pricing equates to more dollars for less boat.   So what's your budget, also where are you storing it and what vehicle are you towing with?

combining my buddy and me on the budget should be doable. We are not expecting to get a yacht for what we put together. My bud bought a house that has plenty of space to park the boat. I have a pilot to tow it hence looking for a manageable size boat. Thank you.

with 5k towing you will probably want a 17 foot or smaller. a loaded 19 can be upwards of 4k lbs

I have been very satisfied with my 16 ft Kingfisher (XL1625) with 60HP Honda. Very solid construction. Great for CA lakes, delta, rivers and bay. Can handle calm days on the salt.

Darius! I have a 17 foot Arima Sea Chaser. I love it, but I wish it was a bit bigger except when I'm towing it. No need for a Shark Shield.  :smt005 :smt005 A 19 foot Sea Ranger would be nicer. Mine fishes 2 people well, three is fine and 4 is tight. Whatever you get, make sure you can trust the engine. Gas is expensive and there aren't a ton of free launches around the Bay Area. Come out and fish with me when you get a chance. We can motor down to BH.

I'm gonna assume something happened to his shark shield hahaha. Are you scared of Tiny Sharks Darius? heheh. I've fished in many boats with my friends. It's hard to put into words what kayak fishing does. It's just different, and i wouldn't give it up for a boat.

haha listen to your friends. You can't sell a boat as easily as a kayak REMEMBER! :smt005 :smt005

I'm not giving up kayaking It's just some friends and fams like to fish but don't like the idea of a banana boat floating in places that like have bigger predator than the boat.

If I had the space to park one it would be this…

https://www.zodiac-nautic.com/en-us/shop/produits/boats-en-us/pro-en-usa/pro-7/

As seaworthy as anything out there and half the weight

Not sure about the price these days

Only thing I don’t like is it looks like you can’t mount twin engines They are probably way more reliable these days but one engine always made me nervous

My old one was 16’ and probably even lighter than these but I set the trailer up in a way I could load solo quicker than most people load with help

My finances are probably never gonna allow me to buy a boat anytime soon and I'm plenty happy w/kayak life, but there are times I do wish (especially for crabbing) I could just easily motor out a ways to drop pots, or take a second person with me for a quick fishing session.

I constantly see people (as in this thread) talking about how small aluminum boats are not ocean-seaworthy, but I have a question... is that always just relative to well known boats like Whalers and Arimas? I mean we go out in small plastic craft all the time, but are just careful about weather/conditions...  if you are sticking within 3-4 miles of places like Doran, Tomales, or HMB, and sticking to conditions you would happily brave in your pedal kayak, would a boat like this really be unsuitable/dangerous?

(That one pictured by the way is going for ~$8k and I've seen others of that type go for under $10k)

Just curious... I'd never think of taking something like that out the GG or trying to do something like hit the Farallons, but I was curious if you were selective about weather if you could get by normal kayak-safe conditions.

For me the big difference is if I flip my kayak I can just flip it back over and I'm on my way. If I were to get into trouble on a boat it would be a different story. I had a very small aluminum boat, 12', that I used to take out in protected bays and to be honest I am more comfortable in bigger seas and wakes in my kayak than I ever was in that boat.

That is a very good point! Somehow never thought of that aspect. (Which is why I'm asking here from knowledgeable people heh)

After seeing your post, I did some looking and found one that I would like. It's quite simular to Raydon's boat. A little spendy, but what isn't these days. The seller is asking for $29000.00. it's an older hull but with 115 hp and 9.9 Honda motors, both are still under factory warrenty. Says always been garaged...
