My Good Buddy and I are solid on getting a boat. The only boat I owned back in early 2000 was a Basscat Pantera II which is solid for bass fishing. We both agreed that we want something that can handle Salt and be used for family camping in freshwater. I want to get some input from brothers that are boat aficionados and if anyone has some connections :smt002 Thank you.

What would you recommend? We both like the Triumph but feel a little small. Arima are expensive.

I'm considering selling my arima. And TBH arima is quite affordable for what you get- hard to come close to the same seaworthy and safe craft for that $.  You arent going to find a Whaler, for example, for any less.

What are your goals for the boat? How many people do you want to fish, what do you want to fish and where do you want to fish it? Will you need 2 engines or 1, and how much gas do you need? (Arimas don't hold a ton)

Are you looking for a CC or a walkaround? Canvas? hardtop? or no top at all?  I would start putting together a list of all these things. it will push towards the boat that best fits your needs.

Good advice. I always like Arimas. I was really close to getting one two years ago.

My advice to add would be to try to find one with a nice trailer. Don't overlook the trailer. Galvanized is mandatory IMO. It's no fun worrying if you are even going to make it to the ramp or back to launch.

100% when you buy a boat you're buying the Power, trailer, and rigging.. The hull just comes with it.

CC or walkaround. Arima is definitely on the list. We want to cap it for 4 people including the skipper.

You know you can't re-sell a boat nearly as easy as a kayak, right?

I think Fisherman's Life is still trying to sell a boat or two.  Actually, there's a couple of NCKAers that have/had boats for sale.   PM P-Sherman...

I love the look of Arima's and Dory's, but know nothing about boats, motors, trailers, and that stuff.  Anytime I try and think about owning a boat, the comparison to a kayak is just too much more money and effort than I care to have I guess. However when they come out with hover platforms for fishing, I'm definitely buying one even if in 100 years old!

I used to own one and know my way on boats for freshwater. I used to bass fish competitively. I want to try the Salt one and I have a buddy that we can split so it's not that bad. It's just a matter of finding the right one.

You know you can't re-sell a boat nearly as easy as a kayak, right?

if its an arima it will be gone the same week if priced properly.

To fish 4 people you will want either a CC with room upfront like a Montauk 17 or a larger windshield/walk-around boat because you'll be limited to the back deck.

i can fish 3 people effectively on my 16 arima but 4 is tight- 19 or 21/2 is a better fit. i fish 6 rods for halibut no problem in the ocean though.

Arima had some open bow offerings but stopped making them in the 2000s (minus the CC models)

Cdorys are nice boats- i looked at a 19 before getting my arima. they are very safe but also dory (arima is semi-dory / mod v hull) so when it get bumpy you have to go slow or you will need a kidney belt, but going slow they are rock-solid safe.  I am 24 and decided I wanted to go faster and do stupid things so I got the slightly (and i mean slightly) sportier Arima and am happy with that decision. it still gets its ass kicked by 20 foot gradys, but holds its own with the 18 to 20 foot aluminums usually following behind for a heavy fiberglass smoothed ride. the cdory 19 definitely was more spacious though.

I like glass boats much more than aluminum because they weight a lot.  They ride better and don't sound like being in a metal trashcan rolling down a hill.

Id like an Osprey or Davis next

I wonder what zodiacs cost these days If I had some place to store one I’d get one 20’+ and whatever power it would hold

No comforts like a cabin but seaworthy and light, used to load and unload it myself

Whalers are overrated imo

I watched one endo by the Miramar inn and my friend was in one that endoed under the GG and had to be helicoptered out
