Just looking for clarification. Daily and possession limit is 10 crabs. Which m wens you may not have more than 10 in possession, cooked or frozen? That means you cannot catch limits on consecutive days unless you have consumed or given away a previous days limit, correct?

It’s pretty common for guys to come over from the valley for the weekend and get a couple days of limits then go home.

I am from the valley as well. But illegal is illegal. Would it be accepted if folks were taking over limits of Lings or Salmon? I think a lot of folks think it legal to take double the daily bag limit home as that is a common possession limit on a lot of game.
I am not looking to be an internet warden here. Just wanted to make sure I am following what the law is. Thank you.

Oh I agree with you.  I also think the possession limits should change to allow you folks to have possession limits that are double the daily take limit, like with salmon.  Right now it’s mostly a trap for the unwary.  To the point where people are posting possession of double limits on Facebook and not realizing that they are over their possession limit.

I think this law also covers freezers technically, correct?  I may or may not have a stocked freezer of salmon... but there are 5 of us in our family and three of them are kids.  And the salmon heads have been fed to the crabs.  Am I breaking the law?  Not too sure... I would have to piece the salmon parts together all Franken-salmon-like to tell.  This is of course unenforceable, but Im no poacher - I had to work my ass off for those fish!

As I understand possession limits with fish, once they are filleted and stored in fridge/freezer, they are a food product and no longer count against your possession limit (please fact check me on this if you know better).  Assuming that is true, how does this translate to crab?  If I catch 10 today, cook all 10 and have them cleaned and in the fridge, is catching another 10 tomorrow a violation of possession limits?

Answered my own question by reading the regs (Title 14 § 1.17):
Quote
No more than one daily bag limit of each kind of fish, amphibian, reptile, mollusk or crustacean named in these regulations may be taken or possessed by any one person unless otherwise authorized; regardless of whether they are fresh, frozen, or otherwise preserved.

I don't think there is any prohibition against gifting fish to family members.

I believe you may give away crab to family. It doesn’t change the daily bag limit but does apply to possession. So one could catch a limit one day, give those to your spouse then catch another limit the next day as long as your spouse is present with the crabs. At least that is how it was explained to me.

I'm going with this description (yah, Valley Guy lol)  Camping with my wife this weekend at Bodega.  If I'm fortunate enough to catch some crab and even more fortunate to limit then this is the definition I'd go with.

Btw, if you scroll down to "Gifting wild game to family members" on this page, it's clearly explained, with citations to the relevant regulations:

Now for the key question...

You go out in the am, get a limit of [____], come in, immediately gift it to your 9 year old son a family member, then go out in the pm and limit again....

Any objection to this scenario?  Sounds legal to me!

my take, you are still bound by the daily take limit, which is 10 crabs for Dungeness.  Regardless of what you do with them (other than toss them back in the water, i.e. don't take) you can only take 10 per day.
