We need to find a new/better way to accept entry fees for AOTY & DOTY next year. Paypal has discontinued the Money Pool feature that we used the last few years.
Does anybody have ideas how to accept/process entry fees electronically? (Without paying $$ fees and without using my personal bank acct)
If somebody here operates an e-commerce style website, maybe we can utilize their payment platform to process Aoty & Doty entry fees? [trying to think outside the box here]

We can send cash or a check in the mail?

This app looks promising, but it's in the UK and has fees associated.

My merchant processing costs ~3% when I don't have the card in hand.  Doesn't really work.  Zelle requires bank accounts for both users, but is similar to paypal in most respects.

Maybe a mix of cash, check, gold teeth, bitcoin, etc?  Not sure if there's a good one size fits all solution here that doesn't require a bank account, doesn't charge fees, and can be done online.

I second the mail option, as i'm old and have stamps and checks.

Setup a GoFundMe and use it to collect fees?  :smt005

I see it as "program costs."  Offer up a mail-in option for folks who want to avoid fees and wrap fees into those that want the convenience of paying online.  Personally, I'd be fine with 3% overhead so I don't have to find an envelope, a stamp, or my check book.

I’m all for the “gold teeth” option as I happen to have a gold cap that fell off…

Otherwise, GoFundMe sounds like a possibility. Fees are listed here:

Venmo?
That requires a personal checking account which Pat is trying to avoid unfortunately.

Good old fashioned check in the mail or cash in hand ?

Thanks guys! Still trying to figure it out.
Back in the day, we mailed our entry fees. Your account was activated based on the day you mailed it. That method helps avoid fees (minus the stamp), but I suppose it would still require me to use my personal bank accts…to deposit/cash any checks that are mailed.

I stumbled across https://opencollective.com/ which is used by a small software community I contribute to.  It seems like it might fit the bill with some compromise, but other features to balance it out.  There are fees for credit card transactions, but only those added by the payment processor, not by Open Collective themselves.  If you opt into using a "Fiscal Host," then the "not my bank account" box is checked.  They also allow you to "credit" people with payments that come in outside the site (e.g. those who prefer to mail a payment).  Might be worth digging into.

Until there is a consensus for how to make payment arrangements, is there a way to move forward with signups for 2022?
