Thinking of getting an RTT for my Tacoma. Daughter has mtb team and there's half dozen races/year in places that don't really have decent hotels. Combine that with her Climbing team and i'm probably going to be overnighting a heck of a lot in the next four years.

Thinking of getting a RTT, but wondering what people think once they actually have one on all the time...

You can buy a whole lot of $125 Coleman tents for the price of a $1500-2500 RTT and just throw them away every 6 months if they get messed up... but you won't look as cool on instagram and you won't feel like you're in a glorified adult treefort. LOL.

that's exactly where I am.  We already have a bunch of different sized tents from my climbing/mountaineering days AND a couple of car camping/glamping tents...what do i need a RTT for?

Then my wife likes the simplicity...she really wants a nice teardrop, but can't justify the price (and the storage as we don't really have a place to keep a trailer)

I have a Go Fast Camper for my Tacoma and we love it. Still able to use the truck as a truck for the most part. My kids sleep in the truck bed and my wife and I use the top. They have a couple options. The price is definitely more than a regular tent, but it all depends on what you are looking for. I have the first version and they are on their second version now.

Another option I would offer you to consider is a Softopper canopy.  It offers you the flexibility of a soft camper shell but you still have the flexibility of using your truck bed as intended for hauling things.  I bought a nice truck bed cot and it works great for overnighters without pitching a tent.

Now I'm really jealous. What awning is that on your truck?
