The final rockfish and ling days of the season are upon us. Plan is to head out past the red can and drift squid or something shiny for lings and rf. I'll be unloading gear at the west harbor ~6:15am and launching by 6:45. Papaya Compass duo (solo).  :smt006

gotta work, but sounds fun, I'm looking at Friday or Saturday for a RF/Crab combo - was thinking HMB or Doran - haven't heard much about crab in SC, but don't know why they wouldn't be there

I hear they're out in 160-220' which might be a little outside kayak range (it certainly is for me).

lol, yah a bit, but I also hear the bigger one are deeper, so maybe it's worth dropping some traps when we get to trap season, and let them soak for a bit, before the long, hard, arm burning pull from 200'

Where is your favorite kayak friendly launch in SC?

I launch from the Marina, not too much $, easy launch, great bait tackle shop on the east side, and better ramp - easier parking but wonky ramps on the west side (same price either way)

I was told by the harbor office that if you use the ramp to launch it would cost $15.
Is it the same ?

Correct.  $15 is the car-top/hand launch fee plus all-day parking.  You can pay $6 for just the launch and park off property, but that requires you to go into the Harbormaster's office, which isn't open until later in the morning.

Thanks for confirming that. Guess I get used to pay nothing at HMB for decade now.  :smt044

yah, for my drive, I either pay for bridges and free parking at HMB, or no bridges and pay parking at SC - so a wash.
HMB and SC are both nice launches, for some reason, I like the vibe better at SC, the little harbor seems to be hopping all the time with sailboat lessons, sailors, fishing boat, and a couple restaurants on the water - and the bait shop is super cool.  If I lived closer, I'd probably go to which ever was closer and easier for me.

Not that I recommend it, but a lot of kayakers launch on the west side (A dock or F dock), park along the street, and don’t pay anything. There is little enforcement so the chance of getting caught is remote.

Curious mind wants to know. Where is A and F dock ?
