How about a large diameter pvc pipe capped at one end and an elbow with an extension on the other end for the boiling water part… that part seems less dangerous than the acid

It’s not either/or, as I’ll need 1 vat of battery acid, 1 with boiling water, and 1 with dye. But using pvc pipe might work. One possible issue is that when an electric current passes thru the battery acid, it could overheat, since that'll be small volume of liquid. But I can probably keep it cool enough, so

I’ll probably give this a try. With 4" PVC, the ID is just barely big enough, so it might be a challenge...

Crap! There's a problem that I had not noticed before. The picture is of the 2 rear aka bars. Anybody see the problem?

MacGyver it.  You can use extension or just have a slightly crooked placement, depending on your OCD severity  :smt044

Hi Mark,

Could they be for the right front & left back bars?  Anyway, I am trying to make the same bar with PVC, could you help me with the length & height dimensions?

Thanks,

Sonny

Bingo! Both are port side. Don't know why I didn't notice this sooner...

Great idea!

The dimensions that you've marked are about 10.75" and 39.5".

The gray electrical PVC in 1.25" size is almost exactly the right outside diameter. The long sweeping 90-degree pieces in that size have a more gentle curve than the actual aka, but it looks to me like they'll work. I'll be interested to hear how this turns out for you.

Thanks Mark.  I plan to use the 90 at the end where it goes into the hole on the ama.  Now if I can find the clamp to hold the PVC as shown in below picture.

You could fashion something out of, say, 3/4" or 1" starboard plastic. Start with a square piece (maybe 3" or so), use a hole saw of the appropriate diameter, and then cut the holey piece in half. Drill a couple of holes, and you'd have a "clamp" that's pretty similar to what was used on the AI for the V2 aka bars...

I took one of the aka bars to a welder (Arc-Tec) in Santa Cruz:

https://www.yelp.com/biz/arc-tec-precision-welding-santa-cruz

The welder dude is super nice, he did a great job, and I couldn't believe that he only charged $20. You'd be hard pressed to tell which side is the original and which is the new addition. I liked it so much that I took the other one in to get the same thing done. That way, either aka can be used on either side.

The best part is that he makes metal fish that he sells at craft fairs. He had several hanging in his shop, and I might get one when I go pick up the second aka on Monday.
