I'm out -  I just removed my name from the list :smt011 Just been spending too much on dive gear lately.....

Dive season is nearing the end. You can get that stuff in February or March.
You might even get lucky and score a few things as Xmas presents.
I think you should hold off on the dive gear and 'kayak up' and get back on board.

Most lakes are WAY too dirty in the winter to do this.

Heads up.  Randy and I went to pick up our Transderm Scop® patches and the pharmacy had none and had no idea when they would get more.  They found some for us two towns away.  We are picking them up today.
Saltwater is the cure for everything that ails us,
sweat, tear or the sea.

This question is from one with a stomach of steel: Do you use the patches whenever you paddle? Or is it something those of us who don't normally get seasick should consider for the Islander trip? If the latter is the case, I guess I should make an appointment with my doc sooner than later.

Janice,

I have spent lots of time on the water over the years and usually do not get seasick but it has happened to me and usually on power boats but less often on sailboats when the wind is not and even on kayaks in swell while fishing sometimes.  In the case of this trip, being on a power boat for 3 days and not having the option of driving it the whole time, I will be seeking chemical assurance that I will not be miserable with seasickness, dry mouth and sleepyness be damned.  Remember Scop is the only one that requires a prescription and from what I have read their pills are much more effective than the patches.  Also Pat and Randy are in the Monterey area where the number of pharmacies is somewhat limited you may have better luck in the Bay Area.

Janice,

Neither Pat nor I are prone to seasickness, nor do we medicate for it when we paddle.

We used the patches "just in case" on the last Islander trip, and thirstiness/dry mouth was the only side effect experienced by either of us.  I view it as an insurance policy - 3 days of fishing can seem like a short time.  3 days of Mal de Mer is a looooooong time.

See ya on the Islander!

Our trip roster is stuck at 14. It might be as low as 13 if one person already signed up has to withdraw. He is trying to work out a schedule problem but it doesn't look good.

I'm going to post the trip on the SoCal sites. Our ticket price is based on a full boat.

Space is availabe on a first-come basis. If you know anyone who'd like to go, please give them the invitation.

Thanks!

I use the Transderm Scop in the same way, as insurance for an enjoyable trip. Once you feel ill, usually the only cure is good solid ground under your feet. The Scopace pill might be an exception. It is advertised as such.

Personally, I'm good most of the time - not all of the time. Offshore I use the patch and eat candied ginger. The two work great together.
