Nice work with the rescue, John. The good karma definitely paid off with a limit.

Good call with the PFD John. I’d have done the same. Not just because it’s kind, but also because you are more prepared, geared, and experienced than that douche.

Nice story the guy who got rescued was probably super embarrassed hopefully he learned his lesson and wears a PFD next time. Also Good thing Doran is right by the coast guard station . On a side note I like the boat launch more than the beach launch at Doran. Don’t have to deal with all the people, waves and getting your stuff sandy,. Only downside is dealing with the boaters

I don't think I've ever seen the tide that high with the water that flat at Doran.

Excellent reports and good job on rescuing that guy. I’m sure his plans didn’t involve dying that day and that was a selfless move to keep him floating before he stared having trouble.

Nice job on the rescue!  Every step had me nodding going, "perfect... yep..."  Well done!  The only thing that threw me off was the giving him your life jacket.  It makes total sense, but it breaks my SAR brain.  We had a saying "us; ours; them; theirs" meaning we needed to be alive to rescue them, we needed our gear to rescue them, they are more important than their gear.  But, we had throw rings, extra PFDs, etc.  It's got me thinking... can I carry a Type 4 PFD (throwable) on the yak without too much trouble?  You've definitely given me something to ponder.

As a mountain rescue type, I was mentally doing the same thing as I read. When we get called out, I carry enough in my pack to re-dress someone and a set of medical shears for cutting off the cotton. My plan for today is to move around some flotation to work a spare vest into the front hatch of the outback.

Thanks again for the thorough reports. I appreciate being able to live vicariously through you all from the other side of the state.
