My family and I love camping along the coast but usually go to the same spots like salt point, Gualala, ocean cove, and a few more. We tow a 30’ trailer so going to familiar sites is always easier than venturing out into the unknown rolling the dice and landing in a crappy spot that’s to small, too cramped, not kid friendly ( too close to busy roads ) or just not as nice as some of the other sites around it. I was going to plan a trip to bodega near the end of January or beginning of March and was wondering with all of you crab fest veteran's out there if anyone could recommend a site number to try and get. I’m going to go out fishing so access to water would be a plus but I also have a wife and three young kids ( 8, 7, and almost 5 ) so a site that’s fun for them is most important. Any help or advice would be great. Looking at Dorian or bodega dunes.

Anywhere in the Jetty campground at Bodega would be good.  Look at the site map and you can see what's available and what's closest to the water.  Book online.

Do the jetty sites have easy access to the beach for the kiddos to play. It’s hard to tell by the web site. How is bodega dunes for kayak access? Also how windy is it? Is it like lawsons landing because that place can get super windy.

Wind can be an issue.  That's why it's nick named "blow-dega".  Access to the beach from the Jetty sites is very easy from most of the Jetty sites, especially those right next to the bay.  Kayak launching is pretty easy with "ankle slapper" waves being most common. The nearby jetty provides pretty good protection.

At Bodega dunes you would have a pretty long haul to the beach up and over a decent size dune with very soft sand then down a boardwalk then a short distance to the beach. Even on a calm day the launch would be pretty dicey with a couple of breaks not a great choice.
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Any of the Doran beach sites are good.  Walking distance to the beach for the kids and easy kayaking launch access on both sides, ocean or into the harbor.

On the opposite site is Westside Campground.  Less popular than Doran but usually much more available sites than Doran.  Water access is still walkable, probably bring bikes for the kids.  Though its closer to Spud Point Marina for chowder.
