Dang...thanks for posting so we do not take it for granted they cannot sting or reach you to sting when out of the water... :smt013
“I’m going fishing.”  They said, “we will go with you.”

It puts less stress on them by grabbing them by the mouth and not by where they breathe from. Not sure why he was messing with it for so long maybe for more views/ subscribers ?

Getting jabbed in the arm by a bateau while trying to show off for the camera is definitely an extra 3k views on a video that would have only got 200…..I already watched it twice  :smt044

Can’t wait till this guy goes crabbing :smt002
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

Great stuff. I heard some folks don't believe in stingers...

Exactly. But in the water releases don't bring in views, I guess. I don't like how people hold them by the face like that. Looks painful.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Actually this looks like a re-release of previous content from a year ago, 7/10/20.  So this happened in early covid times….breaking rules to kayak? Risking himself and others at the hospital? Shaking my ahead at the sheer stupidity of it all. Desperate for views I guess….

Thanks for the PSA; I had no idea that bat rays had stingers. I've always done a boatside release - why would you bring something like that onto your kayak and into your lap?!?

Even with his injury he is lucky ...had that ray been bigger iit could have pulled the stinger out causeing massive bleeding .Once in the skin you will need to seek professional help to remove a stinger .got one stuck in my back about 3/4" while working on dry land .it was a loose stinger stuck in a boat blanket i rolled over on .i caught thousands of sharks & rays .14" pliers are an important tool ,small aharks are more dangerous than big one , especially if they a flopping around with double hooks in the mouths .  we all have to start somewhere but that kid needs a mentor .safe fishn

Maybe it is because I don't fish in the Bay but I've never actually caught a ray. What is the best technique to release a ray without causing injury to yourself or the ray?

Wow! That is scary. I am always afraid of sting ray knowing it can send you to hospital. I caught  a big ray once on SF bay on a boat. I was thinking to cut the line to avoid dealing with it. We eventually brought it on board and have my fishing buddy step on the tail so I can retrieve my lure without getting stung. I also caught it once on a kayak. Put it in the net and carefully removed the lure. Seeing the video confirmed my fear is legit.
