i understand that being on a kayak in the ocean when there’s lightening can be extremely dangerous.

Are there any tips on what to do and not to do in case you find yourself in this situation? Any websites/apps recommended to check for these kind of things in advance?

So far I found this good post :

0/10 would not recommend going out when lightning is near. I used the “it’s 10 miles away” logic, until it wasn’t. One of the scariest ordeals I’ve been through on or off the water. I don’t have any advice other than if you have the slighted bad feeling about it don’t go.

we get a lot of thunderstorms here in Texas and most of us will not go out in them unless they are of a short duration.

I've been stuck out in one, once, on my friends lake when it sneaked up and I didn't make it back to the shelter of my vehicle so I rode it out for the half hour it stuck around. Lightning hit the lake three or four times and the winds were at about 50MPH. Then as fast as it started, it was over and it was a nice day.

This pic and topic is not uncommon on this forum.  Fish at your own risk, maybe have your net extension lightning rod mod flying high...

Bad weather in the Bay Area for a while…I wouldn’t risk going out hell to the naa not worth it. My wife and baby son will be happy though.

I've been thinking about going out Friday morning. This thread is causing second thoughts, especially since I always carry a 16' lightning rod on my AI...

Coincidentally, I have a neoprene rubber suit that I wear all the time when fishing. I think I'm good to go!

Hey Eddie, I like your signature. But isn’t this the full version? And if so, isn’t that bad luck? :smt005

“I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

I thought about that and my soul reminded me that I don't fish at night... :smt005 :smt006

Can a 24lber top 40" or you really want a 40lber?  Gaff his face to a Mozart ensemble...no offense to the fishy of course...
