I picked up a free boat trailer several months ago. I am finally getting around to working on making it into a 4 kayak trailer. The tongue was bent up a bit so I figured it would be easier to cut the damage off and just shorten up the trailer. After finishing the tongue I cut off the old bunks and mounts. It got windy today so I wasn’t able to get much welding done so I installed new lights and wiring.
I will be using 3” pvc pipe for my new bunks. They will be 10’ long for my 13’ kayaks and 8’ for the 10’ sit ins my wife and daughter use. They will be fastened on the ends and allowed to sag and conform the the shape of the hulls.

PVC bunks are a good idea. But, I'd recommend 2" (the gray stuff, as it's supposed to be more UV resistant). That's what I use for my heavy AI, and it's more than strong enough. If you go with 3", it might not flex enough to conform to the shape of the kayaks.

I got the 3” stuff free so will try it first. I think it will be good on my bigger kayaks. But think it may be too big for the smaller ones. Will see how things works out.
