Great motivation for tomorrow !!! Congrats. You been putting in some time and rewarded . Sounds like some family members as well.  :smt001

I have been sidelined with vertigo since last Thursday. I keep posting that i am going out but vertigo says stay home.  :smt009

A friend of mine has graciously volunteered to chauffer me and my boat to Santa Cruz harbor tomorrow. All this talk of mackerel and NWM's success has me motivated. Hopefully the Vertigo doesn't react to badly. Still have some slight dizziness with certain conditions.

Getting vacuum sealing items ready .  :smt001

A few more details...

I launched at 7:10 and covered 7 miles in about 4.5 hours.

After leaving the harbor, I headed straight out to 56 fow and started trolling to the east. At about 8:00, I hooked a borderline keeper halibut (23" I'd estimate) but didn't want to measure it, so did a no-touch release. About a half hour later, I turned back to the west, and had a strong takedown that was definitely a halibut, but it came unbuttoned before I could see it. An hour or so later, I caught the one in the picture just west of the mile buoy, at the same 56' depth.

Other than the 2 (or 3?) halibut, I only landed a couple of rockfish and 1 kingfish. Bait was almost everywhere, and birds were constantly circling about. There was a noticeable swell, but it seemed to have eased somewhat by the time I came in.

The fish survey guy was at the dock, and my guesstimate of 28" was pretty close, as the fish taped out at 28.5". The fish survey dude said a few bonito had come in, but they were caught in 3000 fow, which is a bit beyond my range...

Based on the swell, I was expecting a pretty slow day, but with luck, it could have been that rare SC halibut limit. Maybe next time...
