That would make it 180% capacity of the original pack.

That would be great, as it would give more than enough run-time. Would charging be an issue?
Charging should not be an issue because the charge/discharge properties of Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer are identical. Same voltage in every respect.

When my SS battery takes a crap I’m all for wiring up a larger capacity battery, and wiring an in-line regulator.

Here's what I found. For version "A" and "B", they use 3s LP103450. For version "C" it's using 2x 18650.

I put my updated findings in this earlier post... http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=96475.msg1082758#msg1082758

Ok. I will stop thread-jacking NWM's project now. Sorry.

What do you guys think about this one?
https://www.amazon.com/5200mAh-Lithium-57-72Wh-Rechange-Connectors/dp/B08D1SHJDC/ref=pd_sbs_2/130-2340839-2712844?pd_rd_w=Mu6ti&pf_rd_p=755df9fc-1b62-4c8c-831e-91a7f8454d75&pf_rd_r=3DQTKF3AS8N170C243Q2&pd_rd_r=ca5b7ba2-5190-474c-a458-237f88aa1b00&pd_rd_wg=ZR62g&pd_rd_i=B08D1SHJDC&psc=1
If you're asking whether you can use it in an external battery box, then I'll say it should be fine, since the original battery only has 2000mah. The one in your reference is a 3s2p 18650 (6x 18650 with 2600mah each) pack with 5200mah @ 11.1v. It's about 2.5 times the original battery pack.
If you're asking whether it would fit inside the SS, then the answer is obviously no.

No problem—it’s all good info.

Personally, I like the idea of having a single battery to run my FF and SS (and anything else). I just hope that the voltage difference doesn’t change it from a shark shield to a shark magnet…

No worries. Your SS battery when fully charged should be 13.6v (11.1v nominal). Replacing it with your 4s LifePo (fully charged 14.8v
and 12.8v nominal) you're still within the range that the SS was designed for, at least some of the time ;) .

Hopefully, I'll get out for at least a quick trip tomorrow. If so, I'll report on how it works out...

Sorry for the delay.

I did go out, but I'm still not 100% certain. I'm planning to go out again tomorrow and should have a final verdict then.

I found this video that shows some sort of tester for the SS:

When I put a voltmeter across my new-and-improved SS similar to the way the tester is used in that video, it shows a pulsating voltage from 0 up to about 15 volts. That seems good, but for some reason the green light continues to flash green, rather than going to solid green, as in the video...

What an awesome thread! Anyone find a larger battery that will fit in the SS yet? Mine doesn’t hold a charge and I would love to have an easy upgrade/fix solution so my wife can stop teasing me for wasting $500.
Aloha,

Isao

So, I tried it again OTW yesterday. As I recall, the way the SS is supposed to work is that when I turn it on, the green light should flash a few times, followed by a beep, and then a steady green light. What happens instead is that it just endlessly flashes green. It does provide a not-so-pleasant tingly shock, however, so it seems like it's working.

But, I'm baffled by the non-standard light/beep situation. Any ideas why that might be happening, or what I could do to test it to be sure it's working properly?

If somebody with a SS has a voltmeter, could you set your voltmeter on the 20v DC setting, and touch the leads across the SS as shown in the video above? Let me known what you see, both in terms of voltage, and the timing between pulses. When I do that (and get the leads positioned just right), I see a definite pulse that fluctuates around 15v...

In one of your earlier posts you commented: “ I cut the wires that go to the charge circuit and soldered them to the power leads--you can sort of see it in the picture in post #26 in this thread”.

With my newer Sharkshield it will not turn on while being charged. If yours is similar you may need to un-solder the charging leads, and cap them. Then the only change from the stock unit would be a bigger battery, and it should function normally.
