This is sounding like a broken record.

I tried it on Monday, and it didn't work. I took it all apart and disconnected the wires from the charging port, and added a new connector. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to try it on Friday--if so, I'll report back. But, I'm starting to think the SS is broken, although I'm not giving up just yet...

Bummer. I'll try to power my two units with an external 4s LifePo4 to see they work or not. I don't see any reason why an external battery wouldn't work.

I'm a little skeptical about the published specs. When I put the SS whip on my Fluke, I measured some pulses exceeding 1000v and some low voltage pulses. I'm pretty sure the low voltage pulses were sensing the conductivity between the electrodes. And when I measure the amperage draw from the battery pack, it was only drawing between ~0.02 - 0.3 amp. I don't know, but the math doesn't added up. Someone who has an oscilloscope should check it out once and for all.

Meanwhile, I was able to source similar PCM boards and batteries to make new battery packs. I'll start a different thread when I have info that I can share.

I tried it on my SS version "C". Hooked up 8v to it because the version "C" battery pack is a 2s LiIon. It does work. I even tried what Batmann said about adding salt to the water. I got solid green light. However, it didn't happen right away. I had to position the whip a certain way in my tub before I got a green light felt the jolt. Make sure you play around with the position of the electrodes. It's worth a try.

That's interesting. This makes me think that my SS may have other problems than simply a battery going bad. Anyways, hope to test it again tomorrow...

I'm stumped. I charged the old battery and attached it to the SS, with the whip in a bucket of salty water. As usual, the green light came on, and then a few seconds later it started flashing.

The only thing that differs between this setup and having the battery internal is that the wires to the charging port are disconnected. I can't see how that could matter, but I'll prolly try reconnecting those wires just for the heck of it.

It seems the SS itself is bad, not just the battery. May be time for a new and/or used SS...
