I would highly encourage you to take on the project. It's extremely fun and satisfying.

worry that in the end, I'd find it not stable enough, and wanting for something more like Arima

The Arima is a Dory hull, incredibly stable. I was out in 15 knot south winds all day Saturday fishing the shipping lane and was comfortable the whole time.  Usually have a Montauk or alloy tucked behind me until we're around bonita.

This was my project. 1989 Arima 15'11 Sea Explorer that I built a pilot house for.  I have dreams of putting a kayak on the roof and fishing out of it in big sur.  It's super satisfying to take on a project like that then get to enjoy it on the weekends.

Thanks!! The bow has a nice sharp approach, but the stern is pretty flat, giving it the dory personality in the water. The whalers have a tendency to slap because of their flat fronts but are pretty capable regardless.

yah, the slap is pretty sharp, and if I invest time to improve a boat, would want it to be at least 15 or 17', 13' is pretty limited

Love the lines you have on that! Will you be putting a windscreen on it as well? Will be a really nice setup, big open deck is something i wish i had.

No Venturi screen or plexiglass shields.  Original plan was for a removable pilot house that I can put on/takeoff when moving between the delta and bay/ocean.  Plans have changed though, the whaler may be getting finished as is and heading to San Diego.
