Can folks share their favorite salmon trolling rod? Photos would be appreciated

I’ve been using the Lamiglas X-11 (light) and I love how it bends, but that’s pretty much it. In terms of quality of construction or parts, it’s just not so good (to say the least). I’m looking for something dependable and still sensitive (light power) in the 8-9ft range. 2 piece.

Looks like the Dick's in Daly City has this rod in stock in both the 7' and 7'6" lengths (light power).  Looks like only a few, so might be inventory error.

I got an 8'2" Classic Glass off amazon recently. It is now "Battleglas" and grey but my understanding its the same rod. 2 piece. At the time, there were a few in stock. The Phenix Abyss rods I love but not 2 piece. I have the 807 and the HD786. The 786 is my salmon rod. I think there is an 805 which might fit what you want. But, like Olseng said, it could be hard to find

When you decide on the rod, might give a call to Hi's in South SF (Its close for us Pacificans) or San Carlos West Marine.
Tough time to get a new salmon rod, but you can find something good no doubt!  Folks at Hi's have kept a good selection even through the pandemic.  That West Marine has a good selection of gear/lures/dodgers but they never have things I need like treble hooks or weights, they did have some good rods that might work. Most of the staff at WM is not very knowledgeable but you might get lucky. Worth a call.

Liam (a forum member) works at WM san Carlos and has done an excellent job revamping their inventory from the last few years (it completely changed and they offer 5x as much relevant stuff) still agree that hooks/line/terminal gear is lacking but they carry a lot of good options.  I buy 99% of my salmon gear there.

i use a 8'6" St. Croix rod from the 80's. Rated 12-25# & I love the length as it's manageable but still great with the DR on the yak. I actually use it on my boat too.

The Daiwa wilderness trolling rods work well. But they only sell for $20, which isn’t going to pay for sponsorship and marketing.

……..doesn’t that tell you something?   :smt001

The build quality on your lamiglass isn’t the greatest because it’s sold at an entry level price point.  If you like the blank action, they likely have a higher quality rod using the same blank at a higher price point.  You get what you pay for and the price sacrifice is usually in the components and build quality.

Ugly Stik tiger, shimano trevala, daiwa vip.  I have all three of them, all of them are good for salmon/halibut/sturgeon.  Just choose the appropriate strength (or match the line strength you are going to use).  If you want specific model, just pm me (too lazy to check it out now).

EDIT: Are you downrigger trolling, sinker release, diver, cannonball? My notes are about downriggers.

I have used in no particular order…
Okuma cold water rod in 8 ft 2 pc medium. It was too light for my liking. And I broke it on a fish.
Lamiglas x-11 7-9. I actually liked this rod, but realistically it was a little too stiff for a downrigger rod. Also I broke it.
Shimano trevala 7-0 light action. I really like this rod for a downrigger rod and find myself using it when I pack light since I can jig with it as well.
Shimano Talora 8-0 MH. Too light for ocean salmon IMO.
Phoenix abyss 807. Way too heavy for downrigger application, but pulls divers well if you are into that. I am not into that. Pulls duty as a bait rod for hali, rf, sturgeon. Super versatile, just not for a downrigger.
Ugly stick tiger that I don’t remember the model. I think it was like 7 ft medium or medium heavy. Nice soft tip but too much backbone for a downrigger rod. Also good for divers but see above.
Lamiglas classic glass (now called battle glass) 9-0 DR. This is my current rod. My only complaint is the cork handle. I don’t really like cork handles. Shrink wrap fixes that though. 9-0 may be a little long for some people but it gives me confidence that I will land hooked fish with barbless hooks.

There are lots of options out there that will work and work well. A lot of it comes down to personal preference for length, handle design, cosmetics, whatever.

^^^^^  very good review!  I especially appreciate the descriptions on what doesnt work  :smt007
If anybody is into spinning reel, Okuma has a new spinning reel rod called the Monterey, which they claim is for salmon, halibut, and sturgeon.  It looks awesome, but slightly more that what I mentioned and I dont use spinning reel for the ocean bigger fish.
