Camping at Fallen Leaf Lake campground next week - visiting in laws...so I plan to spend a bunch of time on the water :)
I've had good luck fishing for mackinaw in the past, deep with live fresh caught minnows and a 1 oz sinker.

Now that I have a nice fishing kayak (vs. kayak) I plan to go after some other species as well
1. Kokanee - using my down rigger for one pole and extra weight (2 oz) on the second pole.  I'll use similar rigs as bullards, flasher, Macks..., corn
2. Mackinaw trolling with lures (speedy shiners) and corn at 100' on the DR, and a 8? oz weight on the other pole.
3. brown trout - no idea how yet
4. rainbow and cut throat trout - possible on same setup as Kokes?

any recommendations greatly appreciated. FLL is roughly same elevation as Lake Tahoe ~6200'.  Tends to be calm in morning and often strong mountain winds in afternoon.  The lake receives light fishing pressure (imo)

All those setups should catch you fish.

One suggestion i would make is to make a conscious decision on your troll speed. Go 0.8 to 1.5mph down near the thermocline for kokanee (you might also catch some rainbows). But if your main goal is rainbows, then speed up to 1.5 to 2.2mph and switch to a spoon, trolling fly or grub.

If nothing works, slow-troll a nighcrawler on a slow death hook with a silver dodger.

Good luck and let us know how you do!

Brown and cuts will prefer slightly warmer water than rainbows. Rainbows like the 55-65F water, while the others tend to hunt in the shallows and hunt a more high profile bait. Browns spawn late summer/fall so they might be staging near the water inlet for their spawn. Will be aggressively feeding up in the shallows 65-75F if so. For rainbows, I'd work open water structure. Kokes will be in the same water as rainbows, often where there is visible plankton bloom discolorations from the surface of the water, sometimes holding a bit above the rainbows. Trolling in the shallows might not get any marks on FF. Macks tend to hold much deeper water than any of the above. Start in the deepest sections and work the big marks in the bottom 33% of the water column. No personal experience with Macks, though. Just my 2c

Many fishermen spend their lives chasing fish, only to realize that it was themselves that they were chasing.

The "Salty" in my handle refers to my attitude, not the waters I fish
