Anyone fished Capitola recently? A buddy and I are thinking of launching from the wharf Saturday morning to go for Hali and Lings. Any tips for someone that's never fished there? Thinking of trolling/drifting bait first then hitting the reefs. Thanks in advance

There were quite a few kayakers out fishing today. I like to bounce around with live bait if you can jig some up. Bounce the Mile buoy to the Point. I also use dead bait or a lucky craft lure. Bouncing covers more ground.

There were a bunch of small power boats about 1/2 mile off of The Hook (41st Ave) this morning, I'm guessing in about 50 FOW.  You might have a problem finding a spot of sand to land on that isn't covered with humans after this hot week in the valleys.Good luck.  And please post a report

Happened to be in Capitola yesterday with a bunch of other yakkers and PBers. Got lucky and managed to run into two butts (24" & 30") and a ling. I hooked something with a good amount of weight, but never got a chance to see it as it popped off. Can only think it was either a big doormat or a giant ball of seaweed. 40-50 fow.

That's a productive day!

I walked along West Cliff today from about 10-noon. It looked like a great day to be on the water, with overcast skies, modest swell, light breeze, etc. The squid boats are still working the same areas, and there were a lot of boaters fishing off of Natural Bridges, and at least 1 kayaker was out in that general area. I did see a huge dead dolphin in the kelp--it didn't look like it had been chewed up by a shark...

Tried our luck bounce balling near mile buoy with a few hook ups, had 1 23" for all of 5 hours and a couple that managed to shake off, plus a few scratched baits. Did not jig up any live and did not see that many being caught, but I feel like the action would of been more consistent on live. Beautiful day with no winds until 12 but there were tons of boats and people on rental skiffs. Switched to rock fish a bit later at the point and saved the trip. They're out there, just wasn't my day!
