Launched off Capitola Beach with a friend at 10 AM in beautiful conditions. Flat water, just enough of a breeze to drift. No halibut, but lots of mackerel and kingfish to drive me crazy, with an occasional small rockfish. My friend has got skunked so often, he was actually keeping mackerel. Then, around 1:30, just as he was heading in, he lands a white sea bass! First one I have ever seen. He was bouncing a white buzz bomb iron off the bottom, around 400 yards off the pier.

Don't know the size. I just shot the picture. 28 inches is the legal minimum.

Yeah, 28 inch minimum. One per person in Norcal.

Sorry, I'll have to respectfully disagree with that one.

The size limit is definitely 28"; however, where does it say that the limit is one in Norcal?

The daily bag and possession limit is three fish except that only one fish may be taken in waters south of Point Conception between March 15 and June 15.

I must have been confused about that. I looked up the regs and found only one area that limits the take to one fish per day:

"The A-12 daily bag and possession limit for white seabass is three except that only one fish
may be taken in waters south of Pt. Conception, Santa Barbara County, between
March 15 and June 15."

I love a fruitful HMD.  It strokes that gambler streak in us all.  Congrats.
