Went 4/17 and 4/24

4/17 - Warm, Low tide, bait was bitten a few times, pulled up 1 18in over 3 hours of trolling

4/24 - Cold/Windy, High tide, only 1 bite over 3 hours of trolling, 26in got it up to the boat before it got off (rookie handling)

Not as great of a bite as Oyster or ARW but it's a nicer view and close to Marin residents.

Thanks for the report, but please try to not net baby halibut.  It splits their tail (bad) as you can see in the photo.   :smt006

Yeah I thought I got a net that was supposed to avoid that with the rubber mesh, guess not. Won't net em next time.

What are the best nets in order to avoid tail splitting and minimize hook snags

I could be wrong but grabbing them with a lip gripper might be helpful, sometimes I'll lead them up and grab the hook with a pliers like a ninja and unhook them without any fanfare unless they object... :smt006

The fish gripper I have is "the fish grip". Used it on a just short hali and it tore a big gaping hole in the lower jaw from the thrashing. For the smaller fish I will have to remember to hand-line, rod swing into boat, or just release boat side.

For a baby like that, just bring it up and out of the water and grab it right above the gills, the thick part of the head. Pinch it like you’re holding a book. Don’t get bit.

Pinch the barbs on your trebel hook. It's a lot easier to shake them off.

Darn, I bought a new rubberized net and I thought it would be better for the tails, but looks like maybe not. I used a fish gripper on a short with no problem, (and on a 26") but now it sounds like that can be a problem too. If they aren't close, I will just try to grab the hook.

How isbthe launch there? I have a tandem that I typically fish alone in a one man setup. It's heavy as all hell and prefer to launch at a ramp (since I trailer it). I do have a set of wheels but the wieght makes it less enjoyable. If anyone has pics of the launch it would be greatly appreciated.

The launch at paradise is rocky. At low tide it is almost guaranteed that you get a bunch of new scratches on the bottom of the hull. Gorilla tape is key.
From the launch to the parking lot there is about a 75yd hill. Not a problem going down, sucks going back up.

low tide is doable, but the concrete drops off.
