Red colored hooks

What kind of coloring process do they use to color the hooks red?  Would a regular home depot spray paint (Krylon?) work?  Any thoughts?
I prefer my hooks to be of red color, if nothing else, to make me feel better 

I'm fairly certain they're anodized.  You can do this at home, but it requires fabricating an anodizing chamber and having a power supply (like a car battery charger).  It's low cost, but not low effort.

Looks like either nail polish, jig/lure paint, or home depot krylon.  Probably going to be the nail polish, maybe even the wife is going to help

Tin resists corrosion, and the coating offers little other than coloration. There is much made over the coloration and whether it helps or not, but you have to remember that red light is the first color to be filtered by water, and is therefore not really red after 8-10 feet of depth (less in off color water, or stained).

The red hook will turn black after red light is removed, so it's no different than typical japanned or bronzed hooks from a visibility perspective.

all my red hooks flake off when I get a salmon bite, so it has to be some paint.  I still love running a red hook haha

Good info on VMC's finish page, thank you!  Now the question is what kind of varnish?  I am not too concerned about visibility, as a matter of fact, invisible is better as I usually have a 2 hooks setup for salmon.  I think invisible vibration is good 

At the trade shows the mfr reps boldly state red hooks catch more! (meaning the Fishermen who buy them)

I cleaned some rusty red hooks in vinegar solution and the vinegar had stripped out the red paint (varnish?) from the red hooks after 24+ hour of soaking.  Next is to apply nail polish.  Will update then.
