After the surfing session in LM with my Revo 16, I broke the entire rudder assembly and had to retie the rudder lines.

The up & down work fine. But the left & right steering is not. The rudder gets stuck when I turn left. I have to force it with two hands to bring it back. I read in the manual that this can happen if the lines are too tight. Did anyone experience something like that?
Any tips on how to fix?

Here’s the manual for reference

Make sure the rudder pin section at the top (Like a letter C) is facing the right (starboard side). I installed a new one facing the wrong direction cause the issue you're describing. Hopefully that is the case and quick fix!

I have a similar problem with my rudder on my Revo. When it gets stuck, an up-down cycle resets it for a while...sometimes
I may need to take it apart and reassemble/re-tie the lines, hopefully that will fix it.
Keep us posted on your fix

Sure. For up and down movement, you need to make sure the rudder bolt is not too tight. There’s also a hard plastic washer inside the drum that may need some lube. I don’t know if sand can get in there; when I took mine apart it was clean. I’ll post more if I get to work on it this weekend

Did you try adding more slack to the steering lines to see if you can find a point where it's not too sloppy or too tight?

Another thing to consider is that the boat does stretch/shrink enough so that it can affect the rudder lines. If you set the steering fairly tight on a cold day and then take it out on a sunny day, it will be way harder to steer.

If none of that applies, you might check the plastic rudder pin. On the sharkfin rudder (AI), those pins get damaged all the time, and it can affect steering (not to mention, breaking at an inopportune time, and it is a PITA to replace on the water). It's not as common of an issue for the twist-and-stow rudder, but still worth checking.

Excellent tip about the tension and hull temperature.
Thanks!

When I fixed the rudder line, I made sure to mark with a sharpie the location on the line where it meets the screw, so that I know where to put it back. After installation I thought there was slack, so I tightened it. Now I know to undo that..

Ok, so here is my update: I was able to fix the stiffness in the left-right rudder steering. Turns out that it has to do with the up-down bungee cords. Because I had my rudder pin facing the wrong way, the bungee cords that retract the up-down handles resisted the right rudder turn. They didn’t resist the left turn because this would relieve the tension. But the right turn would feel resistance because as the rudder moves, it pulls both up and down lines slightly, which stretches the bungee cord. The solution is to make the open part of the rudder pin face starboard (as opposed to the port side).

Thanks for the update. I haven't had a chance to work on mine yet.
I am hopeful the tips on this thread will help.
