Hey Ncka
Just wondering...
Why do some people call Lings “Filthy”?

I've wondered this too.  Probably dudes that don't have better vocabulary to describe their fish?   :smt005

Not sure but it’s possible that TLA may have created the label.  Personal threadjack, tanks fo’ da brews brahhdah Scott! :smt006

My 2¢
I’ve found that many have skin parasites and roided up rolly polys with hook feet inside the gills. The last ling I caught had one the size of a quarter in the gills.
It all comes off when cleaning them,  I haven’t found parasites in the meat.  Maybe someone else has a better answer.

Some of those things are HUGE. Having nasty critters stuck in their gills might explain why lings always seem to have a bad temper...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Looks like TLA has a strong claim as the originator. If I do a Google search for "filthy lingcod" I don’t see any results that aren’t associated with Keith.

Ahh-ohh, Keith! A dubious distinction, and subject to reckoning by Poseidon.  :smt003
