I've used a Kokatat Surge semi-drysuit for several years. It is described here:

https://www.kayakcentre.com/surge-paddling-suit.html

It uses what Kokatat calls "switch zip" technology, meaning that the zipper completely separates the top from the bottom. The reviews are mixed, but I really, really like it.

I sent my suit to Kokatat for a leak test, and after some back and forth, they now say that there is de-lamination and they'll replace it under warranty. That's good news, except that they don't make this particular suit anymore.

If I understood correctly, they suggested replacing it with supernova angler, as it is the closest thing that they have available:

https://kokatat.com/supernova-angler-semi-dry-suit-gore-tex-pro/

I assume some of you are using this Gore-Tex version, and I'm hoping that you will tell me how much you love it. If not, let me know that too.

I have to make the decision soon, so any feedback would be much appreciated!

I don't like stuff that sucks.

Gore-tex suit more robust and comfy in my opinion.

From my scuba experience I crossed a wetsuit off the list, and went straight to a Kokatat Supernova Gore-Tex. I love it. When I started out I took sea kayaking 1&2 classes, and 2 surf zone classes. Spent a lot of time in the water, and the surf zone classes were pretty brutal. Only some slight dampness around the collar. Some say drysuits stink, but not sure how to say this but the reality is that it’s not the suit. I shower in the morning before each trip and that keeps the suit from stinking. I would say to go for it.

I have the supernova angler and have been happy with it.  At one GS it was raining and water did leak down the neck gasket during the day. I was advised to use a wide brim hat to solve that.
At the last GS I wasn’t paying attention (even after Eric’s repeated warnings! ) and got flipped by a wave going over a notorious wash rock.
I was  dry after self rescue but quite humiliated.

Daaaang. Is a dry suit really the cat’s meow? Substantially better than a wet suit?

imagine a comfy just-right fitting pair of performance boxer briefs vs. 1980's walmart tighty whities that are a size too small

No, but they're the latest "gotta haves" (and I have one).  Imagine yourself in the sun inside a portable sauna all day.  Even pouring water over yourself doesn't help for very long because they're - wait for it - DRY suits.

Oh! Kinda like this? Maybe I can shed some of the weight I’ve gained while on the water!?

I talked to Kokatat today and...

The good news:
Kokatat is going to warranty my drysuit, and I'll get a brand new SuperNova Angler gore-tex.

The bad news:
That model is out of stock, and they don't expect to have any more for 12 to 14 weeks.

Looks like I'll have to bring my FJ wetsuit out of retirement...

I don't like stuff that sucks.

Personally, I find it more comfortable to spend 8 hours in a drysuit than in a wetsuit.  Sure, I can dip a leg or pour water over my head with a wetsuit to cool off, but comfort remains low with pinch points and chafing.  Under a dry suit, I can manage layering with various weights of merino wool (or technical fabrics if you don't mind the stink potential).  Breathable drysuit fabrics definitely make things nice, too.

+1 on the merino. I add a old Gore soft-shell cycling jacket depending on conditions.. believe a good layering system makes a difference.
