I'm looking at a used Hobie outback and it has the pedal with new fins. I was just wondering if having reverse a must. This one does not have reverse. It has many extras and is asking $1950. Thoughts?

Completely depends on the type of fishing you primarily do.  If you do a lot of bass fishing where you are constantly holding or adjusting position, it would be useful. For me, I do a lot of trolling for trout/Kokanee and ocean fishing.  I have very little use for reverse.  Either way, reverse is nice but not a MUST have. At least in my opinion.

I rarely use reverse it’s occasionally useful. I would focus more on type of drive gt, turbo or the older model than reverse.

Never had the need to go reverse.... just paddle backwards.

Not needed, IMHO. GT is good to have, though...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Needed here.  If you’re in a giant body of water you could do tiny u0turns to stay in position.  But I fish smaller lakes and holding near structure can be like an awful awkward kayak ballet.

Big Plus if you’re bass fishing. I wouldn’t recommend in the salt. Hobbie rudders tend to turn abruptly on one side while going in reverse while if hand is Not holding the control. That’s recipe for flipping your kayak if your on one of the narrow models
