Hi Guys,
With abalone season coming up I wanted to take the wife and kids out to some tide pools and get some abalone.  I have not done this before but I purchased the equipment and required licenses.  I am looking for a recommendation to take the family out for a day of abalone picking.  From what I read online there are a few places (during low tide) that are perfect for this kind of day.  Any help would be appreciated

???

If this is a serious post (and you aren't in Australia), you need to know that abalone is closed from any type of harvest in California.  It will probably never open again.  With kelp forests decreasing, and purple urchin exploding in numbers, abalone populations aren't doing well, though I hope someday the fishery rebounds and can sustain some form of recreational take.

What "required licences" do you think you have?  Just fishing licenses?  Even several years ago when abalone picking was allowed, you still needed seperate tags for harvest...

Hi Guys,
With abalone season coming up

Read last year’s regs online?
Haven’t been paying attention to fishing/diving forums?
Don’t like tastykakes so you’re starting your own winter thread?

Oh yeah, any SMCA will do. They are also a special area where you can fish for coho year round

Really?  I hope it's a goof and you guys are just taking the bait.  I can't imagine someone on this forum being so clueless.  Besides everyone knows it is spotted owl season. :smt044

Bald Eagle season is April, March is still Spotted Owl, but yes you can shoot both with it.
