I ‘m aware folks can keep 2 15+“ bass a day, but I kind have a problem keeping any when other fish are available, and taste better anyway. I was taught to not take them when I was a youngster, by my dad. So check me on this video, which appears like it is recently published:

At 4:10, I see 2 bass on the stringer when he puts on a third, along w some crappie. I have no idea if dude was culling (and why of no tournament?) or if he released them later. But sure looks to me like dude was keeping too may. And for me, altho legal, more than zero is being an asshole - unless fish has been mortally wounded (and is over 15”).

What do you all think about the bass treatment here? Is the youtuber YPV Adventures on here? I’m curious to check my bass bias here. Thanks.

Old argument here. Some people say it is endangered...it isn't. Some people don't like to eat bass, including striped bass...others do. Some people consider certain species junk fish...others don't.

Live and let live. If someone is following all the regulations I personally would not call them disparaging names. There are plenty of people who  frown on any form if fishing and hunting so where do you draw the line?

In some of our little "tanks" here in Texas we need to cull out bass about every three years in order to keep them good size. We take a few hundred out during those culls and it works wonders for the ones that get to grow.
Last year we had a day when me and a friend pulled up over a dozen bass over 5.5 pounds and a few went up to 8 & 10 pounds.

Right when they opened the American up to spear fishing I saw a guy with a striper that probably went 25lbs+ that he stuck earlier that day. I would have loved to connect with at fish on a fly rod so it kinda makes you sad to see her go... but at the same time that spearfisherman probably saved hundreds of steelhead and salmon in taking the invasive predator out of the river. Good and bad I guess.

I feel like I'm missing something. We're talking about bass here, right ?

There are fish where I lean in the "just because you can keep it, it doesn't mean that you should" direction. This definitely isn't that kind of situation.

What Hojo wrote.
just remember, soak the bass in milk for 1-2 hrs before prep. Removes fishy taste and gives some moisture to the meat. Eat away! Smallies are prob the best tasting of the bass family
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I know that rock face. :smt003

With that said I haven't kept a large or small mouth bass since the early to mid 70's.  (twain harte lake).  If it is legal and you like to eat them, have at it.

I've been tossing back the bass I catch here as well though a friend is trying to get me to change that.  He says they are very similar to pike and taste great when caught in cold water, not so much during summer months on smaller lakes. I've yet to catch one through the ice though, which is currently about 2 feet thick.

With no live well on the kayak I run into the age old problem, do I keep the first five fish or the last five fish?  The other dilemma is I suspect most people target bass either pre spawn or during spawn when they are easiest to catch.  October/November is actually a great time at Berryessa btw
