Hello All,

Some of you know me and some of you do not. I know there is a lot of mixed emotions about the MBNMS Advisory Council. Many of the information about what they do is false, but I want to first see what people thought they did? Or what they are doing.

I am the Recreational Fishing Seat Alternate for the Council and am trying help people to better understand what we do and don't do. You won't hurt my feelings I just really want to know what people think of the Advisory Council.

I just have seen some older posts and comments about some bad blood between fisherman and the AC. Know this, I am an avid fisherman and I know every aspect of this sanctuary. Fishing is my life both literally and figuratively. I want to better understand what the community thinks?

Many of the long-term members here retain a bitter taste after working assiduously on the stakeholder's groups pre-MPA.  I won't give the history .  Use the search function.  One of our finest members even left the board feeling lack of support for pro-fishing concerns.

One word:  Kabuki theater.  (yeah I know that's two words)   As a member of the stakeholder's group for Central Zone MPA process, ultimately I felt we ere but shadow puppets with no substance when it came to the real decision making. Due to non-elected politicos known as the CA Fish and Game commission.  Sadly an extension of the spin doctor society we inhabit these days.

I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong.  I respect and thank you for the efforts you are expending.   Don't become a biter old man like me.... (not really)

I am proud of ou Adam for stepping up!

I know that my comment doesn't belong in this post, and hope Bushy doesn't take offense at my edited use of his words,

BUT, every time I hear Schwarzeneggers name this is what I remember.

These working groups and advisory boards almost always end up pitting one group against another and don't move the needle away from what the official appointed board members wanted to do anyway.  The Northern MPA working group was a notable exception.

These types of groups lend the appearance of thoughtful debate and objective reasoning to the boards they serve, but unless I had aspirations of moving up or connecting politically I would not want to deal with the frustration.

I resent the fact you omitted "kabuki," which I considered the centerpiece of my comment.

My apologies, I'll have to be more cognizant of the message in the future,  but now I have kabuki music playing thru my head.

Lmao ....

Kidding aside, the conservation effort is very good for the future generations, but not at the cost of immediate-to-permanent closures.  You are active as a fisherman, a business owner, also a conservationist.  The Advisory Council has to find the middle line and always make a recommendation in writing.  Keep the laws in the middle, not too far right nor left.  Gotta have some balls and I know being in the middle is not popular, but I believe thats what the conservation and fishing communities want for many generations to come.

Much has changed from the beginning MPA days. The AC has begun to appoint members of the community that actually know what they are doing in their respective field. I know that there was some members that did not even live in the area or were appointed positions for what they had no idea what it meant.

I want to bridge this gap. Yes, it is a drawn out political process and the AC does not make rules or regulations. In the end that is the DFW. However they do take our advice. I want to represent the actual fisherman. I see everyone and talk to everyone from shore fisherman to offshore fisherman and everything in between.

To better understand the thoughts of the community towards the AC can help me better that relationship and approach to what we do.

So if you have questions or concerns I am all ears. I will always fight for the fisherman and our best interests instead of the interests of pencil pushers that have never even been in the water. I have been attacked before on social media when trying to gather simple information. These attacks had no bearing as the information I gather is to fight for the recreational fisherman.

But again, I truly want to know what you all think of the advisory board. Again, we are an advisory board we don't make and set the rules. I want to understand what everyone thinks so I can update my approach to educate

You catch more fish in meetings than you do in the water.  Always remember that when you are catching shit from someone or somewhere and getting frustrated.

I don’t quite buy into the middle ground, not when those that wish to shut down consumptive users set the bar so far to the other side that the middle ground means unnecessary losses.  Their games counts on settling on the middle ground.

As much as the the DFW gets bashed around, my wish these days is that the end arounds on management by legislation (see recent bills on bear hunting closure and now static line crab traps, and of course past bills like the MLPA) be squashed and let DFG do their job.

I see your point and it is a good one.  I think about that all the time that we always have to go way to the left and right so the result is somewhat of a middle ground.   I do agree that let the proper agency deal accordingly, the bad thing is that the agency's mission statements can be changed with politics appointees, which is back to the left/right thing.  Not sure if I make sense, but there has got to be a better way, though I dont know whats the right answer.
