Congrats to the top kayak angler of 2020: ThreemoneyJ aka John!
John finished with 1771.5 points in 2020. His highest-scoring fish was a 40.25” CA halibut worth 201.25 points. He entered 28 fish and caught the biggest fish for 4 different species: CA halibut, Smallmouth/Spotted Bass, Kokanee, and Panfish.

You could say he was due—after finishing Third in 2019, Fifth in 2018, Seventh in 2017, and Fifth in 2016. But this has nothing to do with luck. It’s a testament to John’s dedication and skill. I’m not sure how many thousands of miles he’s driven to chase fish...or how many miles he’s paddled for AOTY but I can tell you he’s entered 131 fish since he began competing in 2016. And one of the few people to have entered 19 different species during his AOTY career.

Thank you for the kind words. None of the fish I caught this year, or any of the previous years, would have been possible without the information, guidance, help, and encouragement from everyone on this site. I would have liked to have done more social fishing in 2020 and been able to share my fishing experiences with more people, but that wasn’t the sort of year it was.

Hopefully 2021 will be a great year in fishing for everyone and I’ll have a chance to fish with more people!

Oh and I guess I should share. Halibut came from Bo on a red 6 inch swimbait on a 4 oz head under a school of bait out deep. Spotted bass came on a chatterbait from Berry, crappie came from an underspin at CL, and Kokanee came from berry on a pink wiggle hoochie. That info might help somebody!

Congrats, John! Watching you come charging up the standings and go flying by me was inspiring! You had some huge catches.

Hoping to give you more of a challenge in '21 and, ideally, put a face to a forum handle. It'd be fun to fish with you and some of the other contestants this year! Best of luck defending your title.

And a HUGE thank you to the AOTY committee for putting this on - it really made my fishing even more enjoyable this year.
