Just got home from HMB after hitting a sunset pull of pots (non kayak on a buddy’s 23’ grady white). We did quite well... 57 crabs in four pulled pots. 175 FOW about 6 miles north of the harbor.

After pulling our last pot, I made the mistake of rubbing my eyes with my sleeve which was drenched in the slime that covers the line from the pots. I’m told that this slime is from jelly fish and it would make sense seeing as thought how much irritation it causes when in contact with skin. However, this time I got it in my eyes. I didn’t feel it until about thirty seconds after I rubbed them. I then felt stabbing sensations all through both my eyes. I couldn’t see clearly at all for about 3 minutes. After three minutes the stabbing pain was still there but my vision was a little better.

I’m home now and have thoroughly rinsed my eyes. They’re still pretty dry and itchy with a slight burning sensation. Anyone have experience dealing with jellyfish slime in the eyes? Any tips?

If you have health insurance. Go to hospital. It’s not worth risking your eyesight.  I delayed two ER trips this year and regretted it both times.

I’ve used lime, meat tenderizer, and urine that help a little.  Don’t think putting these in your eye is the best option though.

I thought everyone always said to pee on the area touched by jelly fish.  Just keep your mouth closed. :smt005
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

I talked to my general physician this morning... He basically said if I don’t have any more pain from it then just keep rinsing it with fresh water every so often and it should be ok (as long as there are no further issues that come along).
