Great places right by Fisherman's Landing.  Hook, Line and Sinker is within walking distance 1224 Scott St. 619-224-1336.....  Angler's Choice is 5 min. a car ride 1910 Rosecrans St 619-223-2324.  My Favorite is Angler's over Hook, Line and Sinker.

Then there are the big 3 outfits on the docks.  Fisherman's Landing,  Point Loma and H & M Landing.  You will pay a little more at these shops.

Squidco is another great SD saltwater tackle shop. When I get back home I'll post up details. They have the lowest prices of any place in town, but a narrower selection. Good know-how, highly recommended.

Fisherman"s Landing has the most stuff out the 3 shops on the dock.  $$$ yes.

Squid Co. has a ton of stuff and a lot of junk.  Also, it like going to Home Depot.  The service it not there unless you are buying their reels, rods or the big ticket stuff.

Go to Angler's Choice..worth the trip and all the guys there go out on the long and daily trips.  So, they know what is working and what you will need.

Since we'll have live bait, we'll probably use a variety of cheap and easily available live bait setups more than anything.  Kayak fishing favors such approaches over heavier stuff.  Fishing shoulder to shoulder with 50lb mono rigs you need something like a 6oz jig that can be casted and hog fish around.  Advice from guys that fish this way probably won't be very applicable to us.

I'll bring a couple large trolling rapalas, maybe 4 irons, sabikis, some smaller calico jigs, and a bunch of hooks and sinkers for making live bait rigs.  We can fish multiple rods so fly-lining one mack w/o sinker and dropping another one near the bottom while casting a light rig into the edge of the kelp for calicoes may be a good strategy when the bite isn't WFO.

Is it true we can fish multiple rods? I have only fished this area from a boat and never used multiple rods.

Yep, only when rockfish or salmon are involved (or within the SF bay/delta) are there a limit to how many rods you can use.  That's part of why the La Jolla guys go out with so many rigs.  A party boat would get pretty chaotic if everyone used 2 or 3 rods, and probably wouldn't increase that catch much since the area around the boat is pretty saturated anyway.  It is common when trolling for tuna on smaller boats.

Add "chewing gum" to the gear list if you are using Scopace.  It deals with the dry mouth without sloshing you up with 2 gallons of liquid........

Thanks for the tip.  It may also serve to patch your kayak in a pinch  .

I eat sunflower seeds for seasickness, it works extremely well because you move your jaw around a lot and they're salty so you don't taste sea spray.  Also eating sunflower seeds in the truck on the way home fights off drowsiness, it's impossible to fall asleep while you're eating.

Pspark, thats a good tip on the sunflower seeds. My only tips for seasickness are stay hydrated (easy to overlook with beer flowing in afternoon) and stay warm (sunburn makes this tough sometimes).

Sunflower seeds...get the shell less or also know as kernels.  Deckhands and Capt. hate the hulls.  Very hard to clean off a boat.

That's how I roll too... a big Rockstar first, then use the can for the seed hulls.  The reduced sodium variety is my choice.

I'm super jealous of all you cats that get to go on this trip.  I'll be saving up the WAF for the next time around.

I don't think it'd work without the shells, working your jaw around to crack them open is 99% of what makes it effective.  You can only eat sunflower seeds for a few hours a day tops anyway, past that your cheek gets sore from exposure to dry seeds and salt.  I'll save em for on the kayak, not the big boat.  I'll bring bonine, claratin D and a generic of the original NyQuil to ensure that I can zonk out at night seasick or no.

WOW, you lucky guys!!!  How much is this costing per person?  I'd like to get one together... Islander crew is the BEST! 

RE: Yellowtail...   I'd avoid #20 fluoro... #30, #40, #50 bound to be bigger models in that neck of the woods... Spectra is good, #65 or #80...

If you are a mono person #30 or #40...
