Like you Scott, this trip is already a good hit on WAF what with gearing up etc.     Sure is fun though.

I only got away without a major ding to the WAF on this purchase because it was my birthday -- timing is everything regarding the WAF.
The planning and anticipation are defiantly half the fun and if the event turns epic then all the better.

Ok, I haven't read this thread and I'm not going on this trip, but I was on the last one, so here is my two cents.

Bring a stuff to keep your mouth busy like Jolly Ranchers, or red licorice, sunflower seeds, Oreo cookies, and .......

If you are like me, I'm addicted to diet Coke, so bring some of them too, and some waters. Maybe some microwave popcorn and a magazine or book.

If you smoke or chew, bring plenty of each.

Be ready to have fun, and don't forget plenty of hooks and leader!

Enjoy and CHEERS!

For those of you that are going from NoCal, if you don't typically use tuna hooks it may make more sense for you to pool resources & get a big box or two in the needed sizes.  I'm sure it would save you some.  Also, the boats typically have a supply of terminal tackle if ya run out.

On the bait size I think it is too early to guess.  It's over a month away, so it will most likely change drastically.  I plan on bringing sabikis for mini-macs.  With the variety I've seen from the barges I plan on size 4 to 4/0, with a couple of bigger just in case.

There's been more of the small stuff this year, although the boat will likely (not certainly) have some sardines aboard. Bringing sabikis for macs would be wise. 4 to 4/0 sounds good to me, but personally, I don't care for circle hooks smaller than a 1/0. I've had great luck with the larger size.

I just got a spare VHF if anyone wants to borrow it on this trip.

Jim Sammons advised me to bring a powerstrip for charging cameras, bait tank & FF batteries, vhfs, etc.  Just passing on the intel.

Tote -

That's a lot of iron. Looks like you have that covered, IMO. You may want to bring a rapala cd 14 or cedar plug for trolling.

I LOVE CD-14s, but some of the new x-raps are also incredible.  The x-rap 20 will sooooo be in my box.

I'm doing splash pants, short sleeve splash jacket, windbreaker, & fast drying longsleeve paddle shirt - more for UV than water protection.  I burn under fluorescents so I cover up.

I am completely packed and ready to go. Spent the entire weekend doing it.
I am preparing for everything. No telling what the weather will be like or what hours I will be on and in the water.
I figure a 3mm wetsuit, splash top, quick dry pants that can be zippered down to shorts, booties and rain gear. I can mix and match between that for whatever weather we have.

I'm with Tote. I'll bring a wetsuit and paddlewear. Those who are looking forward to lobster hooping at night should pack some extra warm gear - it can get cold out there.

I have two farmer john paddle suits that I will switch out because I hate putting on a damp suit and a spray top with additional layers for top and bottom, if needed.

What is the recommended method and gear for hoop netting lobster?  How much line?  What bait do you use?  Tie it to the hoop?  How long do they soak?  Day or night?  Should I bring rockfish carcasses for bait like for dungies?

I have lots of irons (enough to rival Tote) and a good collection of hooks, leader, swim baits, weights sabikies etc.  I will of course pick up a few items at the local shops and go in on a collective box of the preferred hooks.  Two reels just back from Al Tani and one Lever Drag setup borrowed from Scott (Grate Bass) Thanks, plus the Trevala and Tekota combo and I think I am close to ready.

I have my scope patches and will hit the local store for gum and snacks this weekend.

I wonder if I can be ready enough to go out fishing or crabbing this weekend  :smt003 ?

What is the most recent report from down there?
