Hi all!  Has anyone ever paddled out from the south end of Sausalito under the Golden Gate Bridge and out along Marin Headlands? I was looking at it this morning from Baker Beach and it looked like it could be a pretty nice little trip and maybe some decent rockfishing along the cliffs? I'm wondering how safe it would be with the currents, sharks, and ships?

Thank you for disabusing me of that insane idea!  Can anyone recommend a safer launching spot with the current high surf?  I live near Muir beach and it looks a little too hairy to launch from the beach there.

Paddle out with crab pot and fishing rod on 13’ ocean Kayak Predator. I’m very new to kayaking and not feeling super safe getting in and out through large surf.

Fishing for rockfish generally means fishing open water on the ocean. When the surf is high, don't go. Fish inside the bay for stripers or something and save rockfish for good weather. I generally don't fish much in the winter for that reason.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Bodega Bay  is calling u. It’s safe there. You can paddle and jig shrimp flies around the  south jetty.

This is what a good forecast for going under the bridge looks like IMHO.
Wind <5 mph
Tide change <2ft over 5 hrs.
It’s still a washing machine under the bridge, but you don’t feel like death is breathing down your neck.

Thanks for those thoughts. Is the south jetty in Bodega Bay inside the harbor? I haven’t been up there for a long time. Can you tell me where to launch from?  I really appreciate the info!

Doran next to the jetty is a pretty common launch spot.

Or you can launch at the Campbell Cove Beach if you don't want to enter the park.

This is what I do, cause I'm cheap and haven't been around enough to justify a yearly pass.  Plus Doran gets very crowded on weekends, although multiple different entries.
I'd rather be swinging...
