Talking to a guy at the DWC, he saw lots of bait but couldn't get a bite. We were wondering what the stripers were chasing... it isn't legal to use a cast net on inland waters, but maybe a minnow trap?  Is there a legal way to catch your own striper bait in inland waters?

Yes it’s legal. I use a minnow trap with anchovies as bait. And get mudduckers, bullheads and grassshrimp for bait for stripers.

That's cool! How long do you typically leave the trap out for?

I check every 30 min...  sometimes it’s loaded with bait sometimes not. I usually get enough bait for the day to continue fishing ... if you’re gonna try .. look for a place where there’s cover for bait fish... usually that tends to hold more bait.
