I wasn’t sure if this post should be under “safety first” or “kayak fly fishing”. The flying part is appropriate, but these guys weren’t fishing.
I wonder if sonar, which whales can hear, can prevent such things.

or maybe were just generally sick of humans, maybe American ones in particular

No way. Kayak fisherman are too smelly and have a rubbery texture when chewed.
