Went out for my very first time today at coyote point. Launched at the airport boulevard beach with all the telephone poles. On the water around 7:45. Yak handled great! Was looking for some striper or halibut for my first kayak fish. Tried looking for bait and using sabiki rigs but couldn’t pull anything up. Deepest we got was 20’.

After a while I gave up and decided to just drop some frozen squid. Within minutes I got a bite and pulled up a decent leopard shark. About 2’. Stoked to have landed my first fish on my first trip on my new kayak. Was hoping for something different but I’ll take whatever fish I can get for now!

My friend however was trying a different method and was just drifting hoochie squids on a high low rig. He pulled up 2 undersize halibut in about 8’ of water! He was super stoked too because they were his first halis ever. We were off the water around 12 right when the wind picked up. Attached below are two pics. I’m on the blue yak holding the sharks and my buddy’s got one of his undersize halis.

Nice! I was considering that as a launch point. New to kayak fishing and hoping to get out on the bay in November. Coming out from Stockton. Thanks for the report. Congrats on your firsts!

I have been on the north side of Coyote Point and seen folks pulling stripers.  looked like a lure graveyard though with all the shallow rocks.

You can also launch in the Park at the boat ramp. You have to pay Park fees but its for a good cause.  I have never had a problem finding parking next to the launch. The Stripers are in close. Parallel troll or fan cast the rubble with 1/2 or 3/4th Oz lures.

Nice job on the first catch man! I'm also new and started kayaking out of Oyster Point the past 2 weeks but had no luck :smt044. I gotta try Coyote Point one of these days.

For sure! Maybe we can meet up one of these weekends and mess around for some stripers or butts!
