This was a mod I posted on the facebook group not too long ago and wanted to share here with fellow 2019-20 outbackers.

Not sure if this has been done already or not.  But, I found a way to add aftermarket Ama brackets to attach to the side rails instead of drilling into hull like the oem version does.

Aftermarket ama hardware includes:
-aftermarket ama kit (metal tubes, floats, and brackets) and yakattack geartrac knob kit from amazon (Links below)
-2 inch long 1/4-20 socket head cap stainless steel screws & 1/2" long nylon spacers @ home depot

Installation on the outback is a bit tricky due to NON-PARALLEL tracks. What I ended up doing was attaching assembled bracket to each half of tube bar first. Keep the bracket halves tight but loose enough to rotate with some effort.
Then install and position each half on tracks. Once positioned, bring both ends of tubes together to snap lock. Once fully assembled, tighten knobs a bit to secure position but not too tight to rotate tube as a whole.  Feels solid with rotation and location of tubes adjustable anywhere on the tracks and NO drilling into the hull.

NOTE: The nylon spacers would need to have the center holes drilled out with a larger drill bit to accommodate the 2" screws.  Use pliers to hold the nylon spacers and drill slowly by hand with appropriate sized drill bit.

UPDATE: I've tested this kit out in the water yesterday and they hold up!  They can be positioned anywhere along the tracks and can adjust twist tension to raise or lower the floats on command.  Also removable when you get on land and no indication of stress on the plastic rails they're attached to.  The added stability should help out in the choppy ocean when hauling crab pots from the side.

All bought on Amazon except for the 2" stainless steel screws and nylon standoffs.

this is way cool, especially with using the side rails as a mount! I wonder if there's an aftermarket product that's similar to an AI-like ama with a trampoline.

Are these for the sidekicks or the AI ama?

If for the sidekicks I did a similar thing but I used the original brackets to save money. I recently got an AI ama kit for my Revo and am in the process of trying to do the same thing for that one as well.

Where did you get an AI ama kit?

CCK in Oakland. Apparently they've sold enough of the AI ama mods to Revo owners that they already have a pre-assembled list of components. I called in, told them the model and year of my Revo, and they gave me a price quote. I had done some research beforehand and had a list of stuff, but I don't think it was necessary.

These are for the aftermarket sidekicks.  Not sure if they will work for the hobie sidekick hardware. But if the tubes are the same diameter, then it should work.
