Just to follow up, I submitted a warranty claim through CCK and Hobie agreed to send a new pedal. Thanks to Keith and Sou at CCK for helping me with this and thanks FishingAddict and Fishbushing for suggesting to submit a warranty claim. I didn't think about that because I bought it used. In the end I did not try to fix it just in case I needed it for the warranty claim, I didn't.
Good thing you got a paddle. :smt005  No excuses, show us that stringer!   :smt006

I didn't have to resort to my paddle yak because I borrowed the drive off of my son's outback. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it he couldn't come with me anyway because of school commitments.

Speaking of my paddle yak, I am thinking of dusting it off to take out crabbing on less than ideal days at LM. I tried to go out last week with Lior but the surf was too much for my comfort with the loaded outback. It would have been fine for my tarpon. My only hesitation is that I partially tore my common extensor tendon paddling awhile ago and I don't want to make it worse. I'll never keep up with you on my paddle kayak again Eddie.

One of my 180 pedals sheared off the same way.  It is about 3 years old.  I didn't find any place selling the replacement part.
I might have to replace the entire Hobie Kayak Arc Pedal / Crank Assembly Left.

If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you.

It may be worth it to contact windtoys or whoever is closest dealer to you Paul if your kayak was purchased within 3 years. If not I'm sure they can advise you on available different options.

Thank you for the information.
Is there any way to file a warranty claim online?
Anybody experienced with the Pacific Outfitters of Ukiah?

I believe the dealer needs to be the one that files it in their system. CCK in Oakland usually does my warranty and my last one for the hobie cradle was not approved because pass a year for accessories.

You can usually send them an email with pictures, serial of the hull, and they can file a claim with Hobie.

You might try a SS bolt threaded on both ends and long enough to go through end of shaft which has to be drilled out to fit bolt size, and go through pedal as a repair if Hobie won't give you a new one. Doubt they will sell just one drive arm and pedal either, probably have to buy a pair. Solid aluminum cranks with threaded bike pedal inserts are the only way to have non failing drive arms and pedal attachment.

Hi Charles
If Hobie doesn't repair I will definitely use your recommendation.  I will perform an engineering review to determine exact SS bolt I need for the repair.  Also, Hobie sell one drive arm which is around $130.

I agree with that, but will solid crank arms work with the 180 drive? It looks like the adjustment mechanism requires hollowness.

Anyways, if solid square/rectangular aluminum will work, LMK and I can make a pair...

One might be able to insert a few inches of solid aluminum stock through the top then drill and tap out the threading for a bike pedal. On the other hand maybe a replacement is an easier fix although the inherent weakness of the design will still remain.

I realized that the damaged pedal is from my older kayak and is not covered by warranty.  I tried to remove the damaged pedal apart, but one end has a plate spring to keep the pedal in a ready position.  I don't think a solid rod would be effective in keeping the pedal in the ready position.  Since I have three 180 Mirage drives, I am in no rush to repair it.  The replacement part I need is the Left side ARC crank with pedal for the Mirage Drive 180 V2, Part No: 81510.

With a thread bike pedal you would not need a "ready" position. Weight of pedal would keep it in alignment with foot. However, with spare drives, no rush to deal with it. Perhaps experimental entertainment project.

You can also glue some 1/4oz sinkers to the back of the pedal to make it always align in the ready position.
