Hey everyone I went to kayak city today in Sacramento. I wanted everyone to know the bad customer service I had. I went in to ask about mounting a fish finder and be able to switch it from one kayak to another. I let the person know one was a Eddie line carribean and the second was a yellow fin tandem. The person said I was wasting my time mounting a fishfinder on a paddle kayak and I was cheating by using one. The other thing he said I could not drill holes in the eddyline. I know that is incorrect. Where I bought my last kayak they drilled holes and mounted everything I needed in my c135. I went in there looking to buy some items and get ideas on how to mount it. He should not be giving me his opinion that it is a waste of time mounting one on a paddle kayak. All I want to do is take my seven year old son fishing on the kayak and get him interested in the sport. I will never go back again. I will drive a couple of hours if I need to for a kayak shop that believes in giving  a customer a good experience. I work at a job where my customers get surveys on my customer service.  All they truly care about is the sale.

I have drilled many holes in my Eddyline. All above the water line though. Any of the down scan transducers can be mounted in hull with goop or in a water bath. I mounted mine in hull with Lexel worked great. Let me know iF you want some pictures.

Yes please, biggest thing I am trying to figure out is how to run it on the tandem and be able to move the seat in the solo position with having a little g length of wire showing and possibly then transfer it to the Caribbean 12.,
Thanks

I've purchased two or three kayaks from KC many years ago and had good customer service. That was when they were located on Watt Ave. Unfortunately, there have been many complaints like yours since then. They don't seem to improve much. Sorry to hear you had bad customer service.

Also, I have an Eddyline C12 and use a water bath for the ff in the hull.

Lol, wait...what?  It can't be both a waste of time and cheating?

FWIW I have a paddle yak and mounting a FF helped me catch a lot more fish.

Weird that he'd tell you not to buy a FF if he's only interested in selling stuff. It sounds more like he just doesn't know what he's talking about...
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Went in there once a long time ago on Watt to buy my first kayak.  Probably 2005, maybe 2006.  I was ignored then I was treated condescendingly.

Never went back, took me a couple years after that to finally buy a kayak after I moved back to humboldt.

I bought my first kayak there years ago on watt ave. Had the same experience after that. After that I bought my last 4 kayaks at headwaters. Since they closed I thought of giving them another chance since it is new owners. He did say it was a waste to mount a fishfinder on a paddle kayak. The cheating part really got me mad. I was there to buy some items to mount my my hummingbird I had bought at sportsman .warehouse. . I think next time if I need to go to a kayak shop I will make the drive to Redding at headwaters adventure. It is hard to believe these companies can stay open with the horrible customer service they provide

the tiny shop in Santa Rosa will do the work.  having said that, i just mounted a fish finder on my kayak.  drilled the holes and everything.  i followed hobie instructions as far a location for the drilled holes, and one place made me nervous.  i gently siliconed it, and it is tight.  i had to wash my kayak with a garden hose and that place stayed dry.  (my round hatch on the other hand :))

have you seen the YakAttack fishing finder box?  everything goes in or on the box and it clips to your accessory rail.  it would make it CAKE to move from boat to boat.   the one downside is the tranducer hangs over into the water from an arm extension...and every fish i catch will head straight for it..i know.  i hook line on everything as it is.  :D  good luck.

The shit service at the Watt location goes back even farther 2005, I bought a little 9ft inflatable from them (think Zodiac). From start to finish it was like I had to beg them to sell it to me, all things considered it was best for me to get it thru them, but dam, total assholes. I never went back for anything.

How the hell are they still in business?  Enough profits from 1-time kayak customers to keep rockin' with shitty service for 15+ years?

I used a garden kneeling pad and cut out a spot for the transducer, and battery. The pad, and transducer were glued down with Lexel. The transducer wire and power wire go through the hull using a Hobie through hull wiring kit. The bulk of the transducer wire stays coiled inside the hull. The fish finder and battery can be removed easily to store or transfer to another kayak.

I have an Eddyline Caribbean 14, but you should be able to do something similar in both of your kayaks.

Nice. And if I'm not mistaken, it looks like there is a 4-leaf clover design on that pad, which has got to be good for fishing...
