Hi everyone,
I'm new on the water, but have been fishing from shore for a good bit.  Planning to get my kayak baptized this weekend in Half Moon Bay. Hoped it would have been sooner in the year but 2020 is 2020 and the wait on a Hobie turned out to be a bit longer than expected.  I've been watching and learning from this forum for years now for tips and technique so thank you all already!
Hope to see y'all out there.

Man, I had a blast this past Sunday in HMB.
I bopped around the harbor all day watching the sea lions chomping on salmon and tossing them all over the place.  Felt the eyes of the folks on their ladders glaring at the salmon slayers with envy. I trolled a apex and a KA on a deep6 and caught weeds and a reverse raccoon tan but hell, it was good to be out there.  Lots of Kayak and SUP renters out.
In the early afternoon the winds picked up and I took it as a opportunity to get a good workout,  I have my PFD, rods all noodled up, and have my VHF so I was feeling good out there inside the harbor.  However, while I looped around the yacht club I saw a mom and a kid squatting on their SUP getting blown away from shore.  I paddled my way over to them to check in.  "We're good" of course they said when I got close, but they weren't.  Mom had taken off her ankle leash and was working hard towing son to the shore but the gusts undid any progress she was making. I gave them a minute to marinate on the offer of help. I will now keep a 25' paracord in my pack because all I had was my stringer on 5' of rope and bungies.  After a big gust I moved in again and, after chatting with Mom I got the green light to tow the kid. It was a bit of an operation but we got the son to clip the rope to my stern and hold onto the stringer while I pulled him to shore, and had a great conversation about minecraft (better than the "We're going to die/not make it" jibber jabber he had on his mind before).  Mom arrived a moment later and life was beautiful.
Figured I'd try to catch a live chovy and give my chrome dreams a final hurrah.  Sabiki'd the trophy jacksmelt shown below but decided to troll my way back to the harbor on the apex.  Salmon bits were in the air from the sea lions and met my first kayak angler Brandon. We watched the show for a minute before heading in, salmon-less.
We spoke about Hobie Compass bizness for a minute and he helped me get my wheels back in the kayak (thanks again bro!).  Got the Yak on the roof and all my bits and pieces in the trunk and it was back to sunny Pacifica.  Had a great day and learned so much.  Ill be out there again soon.
