Hello Yakers!

I'm very new to saltwater and Kayak fishing. Does anyone have some tips or location for landing Hailbut?

I've been to Tomales last Friday and Paridise cove today, no luck yet. I'm using a 3 way swivel, between 3 & 6oz weights, a flasher, white heavy movment lure and frozen anchovies for bait.

I feel I may be trolling to quickly. Thanks in advance!

Hi PK,

Halibut fishing is slowing down somewhat.  Try live bait, it may give you a better chance.

You're doing it right, just at a less fishy time of year unfortunately. As Sonny said, try to scratch out some live bait (also becoming scarce this time of year) and hopefully that ups your chance. And with fewer fish around, you need to really cover as much ground as possible to hopefully come across those fish that are still around.

Good luck !

Thank you both, any advise is much appreciated. I'll be trying agian this friday out in Tomales with some live bait, but maybe I have missed the boat on Halibut this year  :smt044.

All's good though, seems like crabing and rockfish may be a nice combo.

Cheers! and thanks again.

Hi,
You ever try trolling the "ole Dirty luma" for Striper.  This is the time when larger fish make their way back up Petaluma river, Sonoma creek and Napa. Now until big winter rains come.
White swim baits, rattle traps or rapalas.

Hey there,

I was catching them off shore around this time last year. And you are right sir, this time of year it can be hard to keep your line in the water for more then 10 minites without action. The bite in the slough has been picking up in the last 15 days or so, I have my heart stuck on Halibut, but may play what bitting. Nice suggestion

Also, kinda interesting. "They"  have been dredging all summer, in town right now. D street bridge is closed tell the 13th.
