What fish finder should I get? I was thinking hook reveal lowrance 7 triple shot paired with Nocqua 10ah battery and hobie h rail ram mount. How useful is side imaging? Trying to stick with Lowrance since it’s “lowrance ready”.

Whatever you decide to get don’t buy any touch screen one. It is a nightmare when getting wet.

For battery Nocqua is pretty popular and light.
I have people converting to my battery for even more juice, lighter, and much cheaper price per Ah with longer warranty.  Check out my sig if you need more info.

Don't buy the "x" model.
We have the government, that our forefathers warned us about.

If it’s a newer outback with the retractable transducer you can put anything you want on it.

If it’s an older (2018 or older) one then Lowrance ready only means the standard transducer, not the sidescan one. And if you are putting a sidescan on it you need an external mount so you can put whatever you want on it!

I would suggest going to a shop that has the different ones on display and playing with them to see what you like. I ended up with a 7in raymarine element after playing with different makes and models at the store.

And yes, pay extra for the GPS ones, not the X designator for Lowrance.

I like my FF to be simple, basic, and reliable. I have an old Garmin with a 3"x3.5" (color) screen and it is all of those things.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I have a 2020 Outback like you.  I run the Lowrance Ti2 in 7" screen with side scan since I fish alot of lakes and the delta for bass.  I'm happy with the unit, but the cost is steep.  I also run the Nocqua battery and use the Yakattack mount.

I'm also in the market for a FF (for my Passport 12).  I really liked the feature set of the Hook Reveal 5.  However, it's really really annoying that they only come with lake charts and force you to spend another $150 on a chart card.  I really wish there was a way to use the free ENC files from NOAA to get vector charts.

I have this exact setup. I’m still trying to figure out how to use all it’s features, but the only thing I would warn you about is its overall size and it getting in the way. The 7” screen makes it easy to see things, but I have it setup so that it’s on the port side of my yak and it can get in the way a little bit when jumping on after launching at the beach.

I have a 2020 outback and was under the impression that the retractable transducer would only fit with Lowrance. If I don’t go triple shot anything can work right? I was going to get the gps model for sure. Thank you.

The new transducer pocket is huge and will fit many different makes and models. For sidescan hobie has a template for how to mount a few models https://media.hobie.com/digital_assets/Transducer_Templates_8.5x11.pdf

Basically in a new style outback you can fit most transducers.

If your transducer doesnt fit inside, mount it on the outside of the plate.
