Anyone going to this event on Saturday? Looks pretty cool giving away some fishing stuff as prizes. Anyone been in the past?

Lol. Except for the people who wanted to kick Dylan’s ass. One dude said he would kill him.

Not a NCKA event... That's why it is on Facebook. Join up and have a great time! Watch out for the moonshine and shenanigans. Just don't be a $#@ and get along with everyone great. Hard core fishing so bring your "A" game. Hard core partying so leave your offended hat and attitude at home. Fun group.....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Covid party :smt006

What’s that? Jkjk

Seen two guys at marshal last week that were fresh and salty only. They got nicer after experiencing a little ncka hospitality  :smt001 :smt001

Nice guys for sure, but might not have said anything had I not engaged in convo a few times

Have fun, be safe

Aloha,

Isao

It makes me nervous seeing so many enthusiastic newbies venturing out into the ocean. I understand you gotta learn somehow...and going camping/fishing with a group is a great way to learn (and I try not to assume everybody is oblivious to ocean safety protocols...heck, maybe they know more than me). But sometimes people underestimate the ocean or overestimate their abilities. I hope the event is super successful and folks catch lots of fish without any incidents! :-)

This 2018 video does not inspire confidence:

Two kayakers overboard. One kayak sank because it had holes from a boondocks landing gear mount that was removed! Check out about 23 min in the video to see water pouring out of the holes. Also, from the crew on the beach nobody seemed to have a bilge pump. Definitely some lessons to be learned about what not to do from the video. Hope they have a safer outing if they make it out this year.

What a shitshow... good thing there were other people around, those dudes were clueless.  I don't even know how they managed to get into so much trouble in the calmest conditions the ocean can offer.

Launching with holes in the boat?
Unable to re-enter, then barely able to stay in the kayak, even with 4 people helping...

Buying a $4000 boat shouldn't come before learning the basics.

Was there a prize for how much shit one could carry on a kayak?
If your kayak is filled with that much water and you have help, open a front or rear hatch and do a T-Rescue to get the water out.

After watching that video...  :smt009   in an effort to say something nice, "At least they have nice gear."

I'm glad I met and learned this sport from NCKA folks instead of YouTube
