just like paddling and rowing on nice flat water.

mostly like rowing sliding seat shell.

will post Tarpon 16i with extras in help wanted, pics soon to follow.

BTW, very nice kayak launch soft padded 'dock' at Antioch, however its mostly too windy and choppy for pleasant paddling.  Nicer calmer area is Big Break just mile or so East, upriver, but its 1/4 portage on nice flat trial from parking lot, so bring boat wheels.

Anyone ever tried fishing from small fast light rowboat?  Kayaking is like jogging but 'sculling' is like riding a bike.  Don't get put off by the "but you are always looking backwards".  Its all about being able to see the patterns your strokes make in the water to fine tune your propulsion.  It also occurs to me, not being a fisherman, that it might be a way to keep eyes on your fishing operations if trolling.

Hey there NF,
I was fishing out of Berkeley last weekend along the pier pilings toward treasure island and there was someone out there fishing from a little rowboat.  He had a rodholder mounted near the stern and looked to be bounce balling for halibut.  He definitely covered a lot of ground in a short time, fast craft.  The bay was like glass that day.
Cheers

I see those sculling dudes all the time, both in Santa Cruz and on Lexington. I can never understand why they are not trolling...

Fishing is a big part of this group but the get togethers and comradery is great.

The best part is people is the group coming together to help members in need when the time arises.

This is definitely one of the most rounded fishing groups i have ever been associated with !!!! :smt007

Welcome!

Never tried "sculling" but have done some fishing off my p&h capella 166 sea kayak.  Faster than my OK Trident by a good bit.  You must be ripping.

You should mount up a rod holder, bet hooking into a halibut or lingcod would be interesting :smt003

I'm not seeing any "new topic" or "new thread" etc.

You need to have 10 posts. You can reply to each here, and you'll be there in no time...

Same reason most joggers don't carry butterfly nets.  Its going to be about perfecting the finer points of technique and maxing out the workout.  When I got my old very used rowing shell I asked the "club" at Lexington about starter lessons after complete failure on my own.  They wanted to sign me up for $4000 and months of weekly lessons and anything less would be "completely inappropriate".   These "crew" people can be as bad as the horsey crowd and don't confuse "shell" (the boat) with "sculls" (the oars).  Its 98% about racing, like a track meet on water, not about recreation.  So I paid $120 to these guys  https://www.marinrowing.org/ for two 2hour sessions and only went to the first one and never looked back and did about 10 miles my first time solo up, down and around Del Valle.  You only really need about 30 minutes of coaching and instruction, but you need it to know how to balance and couple other things.  If anyone gets a Maas or similar hit me up and I'll get you going.
