Hi all, I put my introduction post on the introductions post by replying to the thread. I’m guessing I was supposed to create a new thread so here I go creating a new thread. Glad to be part of this board of other Bay Area fisherman.
I’m pretty new to kayak fishing and hoping to hook up with others so I’m not out on the water alone. Still too intimidated to jump straight into the open ocean but excited to get out on the bay!

Cheers,

Welcome Rookie,

make some more meaningful posts around the site, get access to the member's hookup forum and there'll be a place to see where people are going.

Salmon is what most people are fishing for now, there might not be quite as many people going out of Oyster Point, but most weekends there's a decent fleet of guys out there.

check out the safety first part of the forum, it's a great resource.

Don't sleep on the bay, the tide changes and the wind picking up in the afternoon can be very powerful dragging you away from the launch if timed incorrectly.

Another option, go check out Pillar Point, The Marina at Half Moon Bay.  Launch down by the kayak shop in ankle deep water, paddle around the immediate area get familiar with your kayak, maybe even practice some self rescue to build up your confidence for the ocean, it's really good to know what will happen when you need to do it for real.

then you can venture around the marina, staying out of the way of boats should prove pretty easy, and with people fishing for salmon, there's bound to be some other kayakers out at HMB if it's a calm enough day for you to make it through the jetty mouth and out into the open ocean, When you're ready.  Hopefully with a good pdf and a vhf radio just for starters. :)

take care, tight lines, and stay safe.

Thanks for the welcome, happy to be part of the group. I appreciate the pointers as well. My first launch was solo out of corvallis point sausalito was a bit intimidating for sure!
