Anyone else get a whistling noise from their kayak rack. I know you can buy a flushing but doesn’t always work. It seems to be a common issue just wondering if I got the wrong rack. It’s a Thule square bar rack on a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Is this with just the bars, or when you have a kayak on the rack? I know that tie-down straps can cause some gnarly noise if they are allowed to buzz in the wind. Putting a twist in them generally helps.

yes you'll hear some noise with the square thule bars.  as far as whistling, tape over any openings.  you don't get whistling unless there's some aperture related resonance.  Close hole = no more whistle.
BTW the thule aero bars are indeed much quieter.  There are fairings that help w laminar air flow

It’s with just the bars on, it’s not the straps.

I wish I knew that before I got the rack. What holes are you referring to?

Lol that’s what I’ve been doing but only way I don’t hear it is with Metallica at full blast!

Put the rubber caps on the ends of the bars.

I have round bars that whistle when they're empty. I wrapped a bungee cord around the front bar (in a spiral) to break up the round profile. It worked great. I've since replaced the bungee with a length of  1/4 shock cord which also works great and looks better.

Agree plug the holes on end of bars and noise goes away
