Shelter Cove - August 17th and 18th

Monday I got to take Eden and Carlos out - father-son trip!  I met Eden a couple weeks ago at Bucksport in Eureka where he works - great local sporting goods establishment.  I left him with a business card and soon we were talking about a trip to Shelter Cove for he and his dad.  Our day arrived and the ocean was good to us - smooth seas and a good bite for my guys' first offshore run.  We did the full tour where my guests really got the hang of the ins and outs of angling from the yaks, and everybody had plenty of action from the bait eaters.  We wrapped it up at the tailgate where we chilled the freshly cut fillets and drained the thoroughly chilled beers - it's an input-output thing that I learned in guide school, and it seems to produce smiles that migrate from the mouth to the eyes and they eventually take over the entire body.  What I've described here is an amazing phenomenon, but be sure you have a guide - it can get sketchy and may lead to a fish coma!

Best part of the day:  Eden apologizing for thanking me so much for a great day!  I'm sorry too, man, for saying "No - thank YOU!" so many times.   :smt001  Gratitude isn't possible without sincerity, and I appreciate it very much.

Tuesday I hooked up with Alex - he's been camping and fishing at the Cove since last week, and he was jazzed to get a bit more dialed in on how to access all the spots and the species available.  We had good water and managed to find a salmon on a tough bite.  We both enjoyed getting to know each other, and Alex was happy with the learnings of the day.  With a few days off coming for me, a cold beer at the tailgate felt like medicine, and loading Alex's cooler with white and pink meat was a good way to top off his trip.

Best wishes to my guest, as he learned that his home near the mouth of the Russian River may be in jeopardy due to fire.

I got home before dark, consumed a hot dinner prepared by my (angel of a) wife much like someone who's just been saved from a deserted island, washed gear past dusk, groaned like a delirious and wounded warrior while I soaked in the hot tub, and once my head touched my pillow I was unconscious within seconds.  I'm sure I slept with a smile, and that is a gift in life that I am very grateful to receive.

Don't neglect to feed your desire for adventure.  I can help you fall asleep fast too.   :smt001
