Hello fellow members,

:smt006 Just wanted to introduce myself being a new member here. I've recently been interested in kayak fishing around the Sonoma coast here after fishing from the rocks for years and seeing my friends with kayaks consistently out fish me haha. I have gotten some safety gear (PFD, wet suit, radio, whistle) as that has been available but finding a kayak has been another story. Just wanted to say that I'm looking forward to learning from the wealth of knowledge here and hopefully seeing some of you out on the water. One more thing I wanted to add. I have a collection of my grandfather's old Penn senators ranging from 3/0 to 6/0. Does anybody know of a good place to get those cleaned up and gone over to use to fish? Thought it would be cool to catch some fish from my grandfather's old reels. Thank you very much.
-Will

Welcome to NCKA Will  :smt006  I used to live in Benicia and had my reels repairs by Todd.  The address is: 513 Claverie Way

Benicia, CA 94510 next to the bait shop.

Hey Will, I am in Petaluma as well. Post 9 more times and you'll have access to the classifieds, which might help you find a kayak, if you can beat Sonny and Darius to it! Check out Clavey in town as well - Jeff is a good guy and they often have demo models available at a good price.

If you have any DIY inclination, I would google "penn senator maintenance" and learn how to, well, DIY. Or Alan Tani is legendary for reel repair, but consequently is always busy.

Once you get a yak, if you have free time during the week and don't mind early launches, hit me up if you want to fish.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've gone over my penn spinning reels before but am hesitant to mess up my grandfather's reels. I actually have been over to Clavey and might have a lead on a kayak as it's only a few minutes from my house. I've got an odd schedule so my workday starts at 5am so very early lunches haha. The benefit is I've got Sunday through tuesdays off so when I do go out fishing theres significantly less people out.

Welcome, Will

You have easy access to many great kayak launch spots along the Sonoma Coast.
Expect to catch more fish than you can eat.  Many of your friends will love you for your fish.

Thanks guys. Hope everybody is staying safe right now. It is smoky and been raining ash here in Petaluma all day. I have some family coming over to stay with me for the time being as they have been told to evacuate, just like last year. It's a shame that Fort Ross is burning, a favorite of mine. Hopefully soon my focus can be more on getting some fishing in and less on these fires and covid.

Wanted to say thank you for the warm welcome from everybody. Was able to get myself an Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game 2 that's a few years old to get myself out. Looking forward to seeing you guys on the water. I should be taking it out in the next two weeks or so in Tomales to get my bearings and maybe get lucky and catch a halibut. Thank you everybody.
